I’m from Loma Linda, California, a small city known as the only Blue Zone in America. Studies have shown that residents live up to around a decade longer than the rest of the United States.
Why I never consume energy drinks Energy drinks have become popularized through social media over the years. They’re often marketed as quick solutions for boosting energy, fueling during a pre-workout and enhancing alertness.
As a dietitian, though, here’s why I advise caution:
1. Energy drinks can disrupt your sleep and your appetite
2. Energy drinks can spike blood sugar and increase inflammation
3. Energy drinks can affect your physical and mental health
If you find yourself constantly needing energy boosts, my best advice is to consider discussing your lifestyle and eating patterns with a registered dietitian. That can help you identify a healthier and more sustainable relationship with food and your body

As someone who was eating a relatively balanced diet, I recently had open heart surgery, not due to lifestyle choices, I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve that required surgery, which 80% of the people with my condition also have to undergo surgery.
During the lead up to the surgery, I found out my cholesterol and coronary arteries were all excellent, in addition while in the hospital, I was told my blood tests were all excellent and I was not pre-diabetic and showed no signs of becoming one.
Given all that, I am undergoing a complete evaluation of my current diet and trying to introduce even more things that lead to a healthier lifestyle.
The SDA dilemma. Most don’t “party” and are vegetarian.
The key to the longest and most functional life you can have is one of moderation and sharpening all points of health regularly through the day.
A moderate life is the key, such as not being up at 330MST to post threads.
Generally I agree, but the biggest factor is genetics.
As a former SDA, the great dilemma for SDA’s is having to work a government job, to get their Sabbath off, but still keeping their faith intact.
I most recently spent 3 days hospitalized after a trip to the E.R.
6 cm Abscess on lower colon from diverticulitis.
Suspecting at times, overeating would allow partially digested foods to pass from stomach into intestines and wreck havoc downstream. Things like even raisins, not digested first, would get in a div— pocket and this one time, constipation allowed it to fester and get infected. Painful and dangerous.
On I.V. antibiotic for the three days.
They say the tissue will reabsorb the pus and infection.
At first they were talking surgery and an ostomy. Iick.
Still on mostly liquid diet.
I think the major risk of a bicuspid aortic valve is a thoracic aortic aneurysm with dissection. It is what killed John Ritter
I don’t think it is passing on energy drinks that has made the city a blue zone. It is a center of Seventh Day Adventism and, per wikipedia:
“The city strictly controls the sale of alcohol and has banned public smoking. The church-owned grocery store does not sell meat.”
That’s exactly what happened to me, I was totally caught off guard, I knew and my primary care physician knew I had a bicuspid aortic valve, in early March of this year, I went in for a routine prescription renewal and my primary care doctor told me the heart murmur caused by the bicuspid valve was sounding different and louder, she immediately referred me to a cardiologist.
An echocardiogram indicated I had severe aortic stenosis, that led to a series of tests that also determined I had an aortic aneurysm, which resulted in open heart surgery.
While I was in the Cardiac ICU after surgery, I started suffering from a stage 3 heart block, later that same day I got a permanent pacemaker implanted.
I’m feeling great now, things I did not know were an issue before are now gone and it has resulted in real surge in energy and my desire to work out, I’m in cardiac rehab right now and feeling great.

In a previously life I was an ice hockey coach. At the beginning of the season, I outlawed energy drinks from the locker room. I received more pushback from parents on this then I ever imagined. I had players who were grouchy, whiny and running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They couldn’t maintain focus on the ice and when hit with adversity (my drills always were complex and meant for the players to think) they would shut down.
I even suspended two players because they broke my rules and actually tried to hide their energy drinks in water bottles. The parents tried to get rid of me as the teams coach. It was only after I suspended my own son for a game that the parents knew I meant business. And my son was team captain.
Energy drinks aren’t good nor do they have any redeeming value, especially for kids. On a good note, the minute the parents bought in and the players bought into the no energy drink policy, they started to play better hockey. They were more focused and less stressed. So much so that we won a state championship.
Needless to say, today, my son coaches a hockey team in the same league and he implemented a no energy drink policy. Best thing was he thanked me for doing what I did.
Loma Linda is the Rome of Seventh Day Adventists.
No alcohol vegetarian I think even vegan.
Nice grey looking people.
Boron is my key

Well I’m Jewish. Excepting the Army, never had a
Serious problem keeping Shabot with any job.
For most people, it’s very difficult to find jobs where they can have the Sabbath off. I doubt that you’ll everybody who would like to gets to. That’s just life.
