From the moment Vice President Kamala Harris emerged as the surprise Democratic presidential nominee, former president Donald Trump began arguing that she was anointed through a “coup” rather than chosen by primary voters. After barely mentioning election integrity at the Republican convention in July, Trump is now casting the upcoming election as “rigged” against him and baselessly labeling any hurdle in his path as election interference.
“This was an overthrow of a president. This was an overthrow,” Trump said at a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Saturday, referring to Harris replacing Biden on the ticket. He later added: “They deposed a president. It was a coup of a president. This was a coup.”
Trump’s efforts to undermine confidence in this year’s election are reminiscent of the tactics he used in the 2020 campaign and indicate how he could again seek to delegitimize the results if he loses, setting the stage for another combustible fight over the presidency, election and national security experts said.
“This is Donald Trump’s playbook: ‘There’s a deep state, they’re all out to get me,’” said Elizabeth Neumann, who served as a senior Department of Homeland Security official during the Trump administration and is now among his conservative critics. “Even here — as he’s going to have to face a stronger, harder candidate to defeat — his default is, ‘Well, this couldn’t possibly be legal. This is a coup. This is wrong,’ even though there are no facts to back that up.”
While some of this is “just for show,” Neumann said, Trump and his allies are also setting up the “next version of ‘Stop the Steal.’”

These coups are happening with greater regularity. Others may disagree but I’m thinking that there has now been four coups....

Even third graders can understand that every last person at the DNC in Chicago has won as many presidential primaries as Kamala has and that there's one, Xio, who got 14 million more legitimate presidential primary votes than Kamala did.
True but political parties can nominate anyone they want in any way they want. They can do primaries. They can pick names out of a hat.
Is there anything ILLEGAL about Harris’s nomination?
The word “coup” has a connotation that the law has been violated. An elected official has some time left in office, but guys with guns show up and say “Your term is over, leave now, feet first if necessary.”
As I understand it, the law here is clear. A political party is allowed to pick its nominee however it wants. It’s not even required to hold primaries. The Democratic Party is complying with its internal rules and with all state laws about ballot access. I think the “coup” talk just distracts from issues like inflation where the Democrats are vulnerable.
Biden’s “resignation” letter was not written on White House stationary and the signature was faked.
Sounds like a coup to me.
Trump is a little late to the party. He should have been sounding this alarm on day one.

Biden was not removed from office. He withdrew from the nomination. The Dems picked Harris. Nothing here is out of sorts. Even if they warned they’d prosecute Hunter there is no coup. It is very likely the Dems would have gone 25 if Biden had not stepped aside. Is going 25 a coup. Pres. Trump needs to keep focusing on the issues, policies, and outright failures. What the Dems are doing is having him chasing squirrels.
Biden was a loser, nobody wanted him and a surprise win would not have been believable. They needed to tighten up the polls so a steal could be within reach. Mission accomplished. Election fraud will be MASSIVE this time around, count on it.

Trump is smart to fan the resentment the Bidens have for being treated so poorly. Maybe he can goad them into sabotaging Kamala with damaging leaks. Maybe some Biden voters will sit out the election.
Be funny if Trump uses some of his airtime to show clips of the nice reasonable not-crazy Old Biden, just for chaos sake.
The WP humor magazine is way behind the Bee in it’s laughs per page quota. Still, they are really trying.
The dems can do that, but not while successfully pretending they revere democracy. They’re all about letting—without negative consequence—their elites run roughshod over 14 million dem-voting constituents in one fell swoop.
