Harley-Davidson is facing biker backlash over fears that the American motorcycle manufacturer born with the renegade image is now identifying as woke.
"@harleydavidson has been one of the most beloved brands in America but recently on CEO Jochen Zeitz’s watch, they’ve gone totally woke," filmmaker Robby Starbuck shared with his more than 528,000 followers on X in late July.
The bike brand's apparent decision to volunteer for the culture wars in America has been a high-octane topic at the 84th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota this week, according to both attendees and numerous social media postings.
"It’s branding suicide," Vinny Terranova, the owner of Pappy’s Vintage Cycles in Sturgis, South Dakota, told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.
"A lot of bikers are switching over to Indian," he said. "They killed Harley. It breaks my heart."
The situation has drawn comparisons to the Bud Light "unforced error" of 2023 in the wake of the beer brand's decision to partner with Dylan Mulvaney, a social media influencer and trans activist.
Joe Six Packs launched an organic nationwide boycott against America's then most-popular beer brand in response. Bud Light has not recovered.

The sales trend has been going down (other than pandemic recovery year) for nearly a decade no... New guy didn’t show up until 2020... While I do agree woke is completely counterbrand and doesn’t help HD... this trend predates the most recent guy.

Yes they have weathered them all so far... but their history has hardly been one of constant unmitigated growth and success... the 80/AMF years were lean lean years for Harley....
Harleys were NEVER a young mans game, at least not in most of my lifetime. (50 now).. When I bought mine in 1994, I was 23 years old, and I was almost always among, if not THE youngest guy on a Harley anywhere you would go with bikes around.
Personally I think they went nuts when they started building E Bikes.. I have no idea how well they are selling, maybe they’ve been successful with them I honestly don’t know, but I know I was never going to be caught on one. Younger folks may like and want it, market may have shifted... E Bike certainly is more viable than a car... though Charging times still can’t match a gas tank refill, they have to be a lot better that waiting for a car to fully charge... and most folks do not ride bikes long distances and trips.. (yes there are hard core bikers who drive cross country, but most are weekend riders, and such).
Anyway, woke is definitely anti brand for Harley, but their problems well predate this latest CEO.
I know a lot of Budd Light drinkers that didn't give a rat's ass about the demand to boycott Budd because of that homosexual freak. Boycotts just don't appeal to them.
I bought a John Deere lawn mower right before their wokeness was publicized and my son bought a brand new Harley right before their wokeness was publicized. We’re not doing too good.
