Of the 18 people whom state and local public health experts were able to interview, 16 reported eating meats sliced at a deli in the month before they got sick. There are no reports of people getting sick after eating packaged deli meat.
It’s not exactly clear what meat is to blame for the listeria in this outbreak, the CDC says. The CDC and the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service are investigating, but no recalls have been issued.
Most people who were sick reported eating turkey or liverwurst, and some reported eating ham. The meat came from a variety of grocery store delis. Tests using DNA fingerprinting showed that the bacteria from sick people was genetically similar, suggesting that they probably caught the bacteria from the same food.
The timeline of this outbreak stretches over several months, the CDC said. The first person got sick at the end of May, and the most recent case reported being sick on July 5.

This outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses, and the true number of sick people is likely higher than the number reported. This is because some people recover without medical care and are not tested for Listeria.

Oh noes!!! Fill out your last will and testament now while you still have some strength and breath in you. We're gonna miss you but you said "Give me roast beef or death" and . . .

Our government isn’t going to withhold America’s food from the Americans. They only have to poison some of us to make us afraid to eat it.
No brand name of the sliced meat, nor store chains where it was bought. What a waste of space.
18 people is an outbreak?

Thanks, I figured that much. Ugh, any way to get their stinking nRNA into the people.
Thanks. We have none of those gas stations/stores near us. Probably didn't clean the slicer properly.
If you mean Sargento, etc, I was referring to the deli where they slice it for you. Sorry for the mislead...
Hey! You never know!...
I love when liverwurst colludes with a Russian rye via a Bermuda onion intermediary.
I LOVE Salami however when I buy it it is ALL GONE before I even get the groceries put away, as I get older I try to stay away from things I absolutely LOVE that are bad for the heart and cholesterol, getting old really SUCKS I refuse to take all of these damn medications they are trying to shove down my throat so I have to be careful about what I eat!! Salami is NOT safe around me, Salami on crusty bread with mustard TO DIE FOR!!!
Listeria hysteria any way you slice it.
