40% of Cancer Cases Linked to Bad Behavior — Here Are the Major Culprits
New York Post ^ | July 11, 2024 | Tracy Swartz

Smoking is to blame for 20% of US cancer cases and nearly 30% of cancer deaths, the American Cancer Society (ACS) warns in new research.

In fact, the organization insists that 4 in 10 cancer cases and nearly half of cancer deaths in American adults 30 and older may have been prevented with a lifestyle change like stopping smoking or losing weight. Dr. Farhad Islami, who penned the Thursday report, said he was “alarmed” that more than 169,800 Americans died in 2019 from smoking.

He is calling for tobacco control policies in each state — the ACS finds that raising the price of cigarettes through excise taxes works best — and more screening for early detection of lung cancer. Islami, ACS’ senior scientific director of cancer disparity research, noted increases in certain obesity-related cancers, particularly among young people, while urging “interventions” to promote healthy body weights.

Homosexuality and promiscuity and anal type sex practices listed? They usually forget to mention those.

I smell weed a lot here in the ghetto.

Doesn’t seem like trying to control that worked too well.

New research? It was widespread common knowledge when I was a child in the 1960s smoking was bad for your health.

Yep. Smoking is not too good for your lungs. I smoked some in my teen years, College and a few years afterwards. Glad I stopped.

As one “bad habit is corrected there's always another to take its place. If you stop smoking, you start eating more, etc.....

“Doesn’t seem like trying to control that worked too well.”

Honestly, if you think trying to control it didn’t work out too well... legalizing it has been way worse. In the ‘80s, in California when they were still busting pot growers and dealers I only rarely smelled on public streets. Now you can’t walk down the street in San Francisco without finding yourself in a cloud of marijuana smoke, as the ubiquitous street/homeless people toke outside all day long while the leftist apartment dwellers wake and bake with their windows open in most residential neighborhoods. And all the revenue it was going to make for the state, per drug-pusher-in-chief Gavin Newsom? That money never materialized as the blackmarket untaxed growers dealers have undercut the legal market

Why quit smoking. A Democrat administration in 2025 will adopt the Canadian government policy and just kill you if you are too expensive.

So concerned about cigarette smoke causing cancer but turn a blind eye to marijuana legalization which also is some in the lungs. We all have free choice or should concerning what we choose to consume or not.

Lower the cost of tobacco products, they disproportinally hurt the poor. Allow smoking in Taverns, Restaurants, Bowling Alleys and Casinos who wish to allow it. If it kills people early, call it the new mRNA vaxx.
