Nearly half of American electric vehicle (EV) owners want to buy an internal combustion engine model the next time they buy a car, according to a new study from McKinsey and Company, a leading consulting firm.
Approximately 46% of Americans who own an EV want to go back to a standard vehicle for their next purchase, citing issues like inadequate charging infrastructure and affordability, according to McKinsey’s study, which was obtained and reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The study’s findings further suggest that the Biden administration’s EV push is struggling to land with American consumers, after 46% of respondents indicated that they are unlikely or very unlikely to purchase an EV in a June poll conducted by The Associated Press and the University of Chicago’s Energy Policy Institute.
Moreover, 58% of Americans are very likely to keep their current cars for longer, and 44% are likely to postpone a possible switch to EVs, McKinsey’s study found. Consumers’ concerns about EV charging infrastructure are notable given the slow rollout of the Biden administration’s $7.5 billion public EV charger program, which has so far led to the construction of only a handful of chargers in nearly three years. The Biden administration has a stated goal of having EVs make up 50% of all new car sales by 2030, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized stringent regulations in March that will force manufacturers to ensure that up to 56% of their light-duty vehicles are EVs by 2032. The EPA has also finalized strict emissions standards for medium- and light-duty vehicles, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has also locked in fuel economy standards that will further push manufacturers to produce more EVs.
The administration is also spending billions of dollars to subsidize the production and purchase of EVs, but manufacturers are still losing considerable amounts of cash on their EV product lines. EVs remained below a 10% share of all auto sales in the U.S. in 2023, according to Cox Automotive.
The White House did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
It’s the leftist mind think that made them buy it. All of a sudden they see the light? Fine if it’s with their own money but what if it’s ours?
I would like to buy a new ICE vehicle, but even those are just computers on four wheels spying on you every minute, just waiting for somebody to remotely take them over or shut them down.
I’ll just keep driving my 13 year old sedan and my 21 year old pickup and my wife’s 17 year old hatchback.
That is the problem. We subsidized the purchase of something they decided they don’t want. What I want is the subsidies back and the politician pushers with “stupid” tattooed on their forehead.
We hire all these politicians to write laws for us - so let's send this modest request off to them.
“The Biden administration has a stated goal of having EVs make up 50% of all new car sales by 2030”
In other words, we don’t care one whit what you chumps, clingers, deplorables, dregs, gun nuts, and bible-thumpers want.
The pure, unbridled ARROGANCE of these FedGov bastards (both elected and administrative) deciding the motive power of my car drives me crazy. They do not have that power, yet arrogated it to themselves anyway.
1) The grid can take it and the infrastructure is in place.
2) Must be as good as gas stations for quick fill ups.
3) They build electric cars that do not do surveillance on you.
4) They finally solve the randomly bursting into flames issue.
The only people who are going to be semi-happy owning EVs, at the moment, are people who drive short distances around town and never take long road trips. Until there’s an EV that can do 300-400 miles on a 5-minute, easy-to-find charge, this is a niche product.
Battery technology just isn’t there yet. No matter how many laws or regulations Democrats dream up if the technology isn’t there, it isn’t going to work.
Make an electric car that performs in all areas as well or better than an ICE car and you will have a market.
Democrat politics don’t do anything except destroy quality of life.
“Make an electric car that performs in all areas as well or better than an ICE car and you will have a market.”
The best selling car in the world is an EV.
You missed a couple.
Price point and stupid ridiculous cost of the eventually have to be replaced battery for starters.
How many billions did taxpayers pay for these lemons? They always worry about tax breaks for Oil companies.
There are some situations for some people in this country that an EV-something makes a lot of sense. But the major problem I have with the EV genre is government’s hell-or-high-water insistence on making that happen for the majority of the country. It is just not feasible.
My cousin had a electric car for a while then switched to a hybrid. I guess they will switch back a gas car when they have to pay $8,000 or more to replace the battery. No resale value either.
The democrats are all for Democracy until it does not align with their radical agenda.
I’m pro-choice.................NO EV..................
I saw a segment on Fox this morning about EVs. In really hot weather, the battery can drain and then you can’t open the car door. You can literally bake in your own vehicle.
The same fascists who demanded that everyone must get the Fauci jab and six feet of separation now want to dump their battery powered cart on the market. And this is after they took the tax payer funded rebate, that by the way none of us voted for.
In the soup Nazi’s voice....”No ICE for you, you selfish prick!”
“Solyndra Motors” coming soon.
First, under Yobama we were forced into getting rid of ICE cars, and engines, by the Cash For Clunkers mandate. Then comes the Yobama/BiteMe regimes EV mandates, and the massive theft of taxpayer funds by way of “rebates” and billions of OUR dollars for EV charging stations.
In Clint Eastwood’s voice....”Marvelous”.
