'Any car company that’s not paying attention to them as a competitor is going to be lost when they hit their market. BYD’s entry into the U.S. market isn’t an if. It's a when....'
The car, launched last year by Chinese automaker BYD, sells for around $12,000 in China, but drives well and is put together with craftsmanship that rivals U.S.-made electric vehicles that cost three times as much. A shorter-range version costs under $10,000.

There are addons to make it a pick up. I figure if you put 5k into those, you will have a vehicle that will last a long time.
“sells for around $12,000 in China”
And how much in the US? After it has to meet US standards?
Read about a great small truck they have in China that sells for about $10,000, size of a Ford Ranger. Same truck sold here would be about $30,000 with all the crap the government requires. If they could sell a truck like that they couldn’t keep them in stock.
Setting all other things aside, $10k seems about the right price for an EV. If you just need basic transport in a local area, it could make sense.
Detroit cant do it, so do people accept that and walk, or do they buy something that gets them local region transport?
Im not an EV fan myself, but this could be viable for a lot of people.
Maybe china can sell us a bunch of used rickshaws so the purists among us can let someone have transportation.
Or a camper. Or any of a wide variety of work trucks.
Or ...
I've spent some time in Oz. I'm sold on the "tray" concept ... you just can't get one here.
I misunderstood what you meant by ‘tray’. Thought you meant you could only get it as a flatbed.
“A waste of money….try trading in an electric car….or taking it to a junkyard…”
Or leaving it on The Cross-Bronx. It won’t last long, unless they are so bad even the car strippers won’t take them.
BYD = Burn your dollars?
It aint the Batmoble, its more like the Jokermoble.
They should keep them in China, all the imaginary people living in their ghost cities will need them.
must be a good rig for brandon to announce a 100% tax on chinese imports.
12k in chyna + 12k brandon tax = 24k selling price in USA
That’s what they do.
My old Nokia 6060 Flip-Phone caught fire/melted with a new-fangled replacement battery, after the nickel battery gave up the ghost, many, many years ago.
And, call it “fighting inflation”.
“fighting inflation”.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
har
No problem.
“Tray” is simply what they call it down under, regardless of whether it’s left as a flatbed or has any of the mentioned attachments. First time I went there, I had to learn to speak Australian in order to rent (excuse me, “hire”) a light truck that would suit my needs. “We don’t have a pickup, mate, but you can get a tray ...”
😆....................
Almost half the existing homes in the US still have a 60A service.
Upgrading can cost thousands.
I seriously doubt these things will fast charge.
And in cold weather, fuhgedaboudit...
The old Chinese mandarins know what America needs is a good cheap car. We have over priced our cars and filled them with gizmos to “Save the planet.” As Hitler saw when he started the VW Bug back in the 1930s—workers need cars. They have the right formula but can they make it work? They may know us better than we think?
The ChiComs sell almost zero cars in the US.
How many cars outside of the US does the US Auto Industry sell?
