The truth is that insects are greatly underappreciated. Insects are…
Important Pollinators: Many plants wouldn’t be able to pollinate and we wouldn’t have many of the produce we rely on.
Decomposers: Many insects help break down of wastes such as dead animals or plants. Without decomposer insects, it would be a very messy world!
A Major Part of the Food Chain: Without insects, what would birds, amphibians, and reptiles eat? And, without those animals, what would larger predators eat?

Hummingbird Moth. I saw one for the first time last month in our Salvia. It flew by me so quick with fast beating wings that I really thought it was a hummingbird. But then I noticed the shorter body and different coloration.

what the heck is that? Spider?
The only one they showed that I liked was the Glasswinged Butterfly.
We have hummingbird moths. They’re aptly named, flight pattern is almost identical to the bird, but they come out in the evening.
I have seen one once here. It caught me off guard. I thought that butterfly was beautiful.
The first time we visited my parents after they moved to Oklahoma, we had driven for 13 hours straight with 3 kids, and were absolutely exhausted. They lived in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment, so we prepared the living room for sleep with 2 sofas and pallets on the floor. My daughter wanted to sleep with her grandparents, so my husband, our teenager, the baby and myself started settling in. I was just about to lay my head on the pallet when an evil looking, 1 inch long bright red and black wire ant skittered across my pillow. It looked like a piece of jewelry. I jumped up and announced to my husband, “Um, I’ve decided to take the couch!” I didn’t tell him why.
The most beautiful one I’ve seen is the Luna Moth.

The author left out fish. I hate mosquitos but trout eat tons of them. I'm sure other fish do too but trout are the fish I used to love fishing for.

I have lizards here called skinks. Some of them can get to be 8 inches long. Strange looking critters. They live in the gardens and are voracious fly and mosquito eaters. I leave them alone even if they get into my house. My wife freaks out about them, but we have very few flies.
I used to work in a place that had walls crawling with the skinks that have sort of ‘neon’ stripes. They were lovely.
I have seen the neon striped skinks. We also have geckos and the little green lizards.
Those are cute, related to American jumping spiders.
Very cool lookin creature.
