EV's During EMP's Destruction of the US by Millions of Impossible to Extinguish Fires
self

Posted on 01/31/2024 12:32:01 PM PST by ChinaGotTheGoodsOnClinton

Here is a thought. What if China was able to ignite all their lithium-ion batteries at one time?

Having done a little preliminary checking, it is likely that charging EV's would likely ignite during an EMP attack.

Sort of like the “Leave the World Behind” scenario but much worse...

EV's have been in the news lately as have EMP's so what about both?

Any FREEPERS have any thoughts on the topic?

I’d rather fire all the guns at once and explode into space.

It would be much easier just to alter the software so the batteries overheat and burn.

OH geez... hadn’t thought of that!... I doubt that an EV would even NEED to be charging to be subject to remote detonation by an EMP.

This really should be tested!

Wouldn’t be that hard.

Well, I would start the investigation here:

That’s a great question, by the way!

What comes immediately to mind is “Don’t buy an EV car, scooter or bike!”

When the EMP strikes, your car will not catch on fire - it won’t run either (unless it has old-school ignition/wiring), but that is another problem with its own solution.

Not following the logic
Than an EMP attack would cause battery fires.

Want to see the science in that one.

Battery fires are so bad because the battery rapidly did discharges its energy crating insane heat.. not following what scientific principle they are claiming would cause battery fire if emp hit while an ev is plugged in

Nothing would surprise me. The largest lithium find in the world is in Oregon and has just been locked up as a National Reserve.

You are in luck today Boyo!

My company manufactures EV faraday tents. Effective only in the event of a full EMP attack. Guaranteed.

If they ever fail just send me an email.

Right, and it doesn’t matter whether they burn, they aren’t going far anyway once the grid is down. Seems like those being driven when it hits would get software damage though.

If there was a successful EMP attack, a bunch of burning EVs would be the least of our problem. Mass starvation would soon follow. Anarchy. The govt would have no ability to affect anything. There are some hardened military facilities. Those would be in trouble when the MREs ran out.

Well you start with the fact that the whole EMP thing is overblown. Not nearly as big a threat as people want it to be. But after if the circuits are fried then the batteries are just batteries, they won’t have a completed circuit so they’ll be just like they were unmounted. Just big versions of the 2032s so many of us have in a drawer for various things, like house alarm censors.

You might be able to build a Faraday cage into the chassis, but then good luck finding a working gas pump. You might have to access the storage tank during the chaos.

“When the EMP strikes, your car will not catch on fire - it won’t run either “

In the case of an electric vehicle (EV), the battery management system (BMS) usually remains active even when the vehicle is powered down. The primary role of the BMS is to oversee and maintain the condition of the battery pack.

The potential exists for an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) to generate electrical currents within a vehicle’s electrical systems, which might result in harm or a fire. The outcome hinges on the vehicle’s construction and the intensity of the EMP. Present-day vehicles incorporate some degree of protection against electromagnetic disturbances.

I agree with you. The EMP angle is ridiculously unnecessary.

But come to think of it, why would the Chinese want to burn down all the houses they’re planning to live in, anyway?
