I don't care what FR neocons say
UK/US are officially bombing one of the poorest countries on Earth.
It's unconscionable.
I want peace. Enough.
Then let's start acting like it. I propose that the U.S. Navy will not provide protection to any ship in international waters that doesn't meet the requirements established under the Jones Act for domestic shipping. Does this sound reasonable to you?
And, no -- I can assure you that someone from Zambia isn't likely to know the specifics of these U.S. laws and regulations for domestic shipping. :-P
I do not equate my country with its government; although there may be some rare instances when the government acts in the best interests of the country, at which time I will support it. There is an old saying: "My country always; its government only when it deserves it."
I don't disagree with any of this, but I have no idea how this relates to the U.S. taxpayer funding a security force for foreign shipping companies in international waters.
No. We should not be doing this.
So was it wrong for the US to fight the Barbary Wars?
Keep in mind that the term "high seas" has a very specific legal connotation in the U.S. Constitution. It applies to areas outside the jurisdiction of any country, and it is used to address matters where the Army cannot operate under its constitutional limitations. That's why the terms "Navy" and "Army" are used separately in the Constitution. The Navy is designed to operate outside U.S. territorial jurisdiction. The Army is not.
See Post #127.
In the interest of clarifying what constitutes Yemen and the Houthis, Yemen’s ongoing civil war has the country split into at least three opposing armed camps:
“the country has been engulfed in a civil war with multiple entities vying for governance, including the government of President Hadi (later the Presidential Leadership Council), the Houthi movement’s Supreme Political Council, and the separatist Southern Movement’s Southern Transitional Council.”
So those who think we are attacking a properly constituted “country” or its people are mistaken. The Houthis are just Iran’s cat’s paw on the Arabian peninsula.
It would make things better in the long term. Replace container ship ports with nice big US factories Screw the world.
The main issue is that US ships were attacked. THAT is what matters.
Was it absurd for us to go to war when our civilians and servicemen were shot at and bombed at Pearl Harbor?
Maybe to you it does.
Yeah, it does.
US Naval ships have been attacked.
I suggest perusing the wikileaks to find out what commercial interests the US military is requested to protect.
The baloney here is 1)ignoring the immense hit to lifestyle of every man, woman and child on earth 2)Houthis are Iran a nation waging war by proxy vs the US for decades on end.
Randfan started with those poor Yemenis and ended with cost. You started down the usual denigrate US military and now we’re at the outsourcers need punishment. The labor unions, eco nazis et al appreciate the support.
They were also preying on ships of other nations. In 1815 US Navy ships teamed up with British and Dutch warships to fight the Barbary pirates.
If Trump had been president the last 3 years things wouldn’t have gotten out of control. Be clear: Houthi-held parts of Yemen are no more than Iranian missile sites with a few hapless civilians caught in the mess. Not much different from Gaza.
They were also preying on ships of other nations. In 1815 US Navy ships teamed up with British and Dutch warships to fight the Barbary pirates.
That's only because: (1) all three nations happened to be facing a common threat, and (2) it was not uncommon for civilian cargo ships in those days to travel in convoys with ships from multiple nations.
None of this is applicable to the world today, because U.S. commercial shipping is almost non-existent in international trade.
I don’t recognize this place anymore.
You keep saying; “the poorest nation on earth.” What difference does that make, when they’re shooting missiles at you?
Really? LOL.
God forbid we should be basing military and foreign policy decisions on standards of living. Are you here representing some kind of U.N. Agenda 2030 nonsense?
Wake your name-calling, crying pacifist ass up and smell the coffee.
No one in their right mind WANTS a war. A state of war exists when one belligerent attacks a non-belligerent. Like it or not, we are in a war regardless of any Declaration or failure to do so by Congress.
The Houthis started it (just like Hamas). We should finish it (like the Israelis should, having the right and even moral duty to do so).
We are NOT the belligerents. Overwhelming force is the only thing they understand.
Stupid, stupid take. They’re destroying international shipping. You act like they were sitting there all innocent, and we just beat them up.
You don’t mess with us, we don’t bother you. You FA? You FO.
