No. 2 Washington survived an improbable late comeback attempt to secure a 37-31 win over No. 3 Texas and a matchup with No. 1 Michigan for the national title on Jan. 8.

The Huskies (14-0) outscored the Longhorns 16-10 in the second half after the teams were tied at 21-21 at halftime. Grady Gross’ third field goal of the game with 2:44 to go gave the Huskies a two-possession lead at 37-28.

I thought the coverage was pretty good. Penix just consistently put the ball on the money. That kind of passing is hard to stop.

Texas lost because of turnovers and poor coaching decisions. They should have RUN the ball a lot more. 7 yards per attempt all night. I think maybe they planned to in the 2nd half, but giving up a TD on UW’s first drive and then fumbling on their first play blew up the plan.

Will Michigan have the answers to UW’s passing game.

Michigan's total defense is 1st in the country and their passing defense is 2nd. So Wash had better improve their rushing game.

Lindsay Scott, Jr, winner of the 2022 Walter Payton Award (FCS [formerly 1-AA] player of the year) was quarterback at 5 different schools over 6 years of eligibility.

Penix found holes in the soft lining of the defense all night.

What an unfortunate last name. Years ago there was a rib joint in Rockford, Il named “Lord Penix”. It was Christian owned with a Bible for reading while you waited. It didn’t last long with that name.

That name brings back bad memories.

In at least three of the long-yardage receptions, the Texas DB’s were right on WU’s receivers, and Penix had to make a near perfect throw (which he did) with really athletic receptions to get the completions. Those were marvelous plays.

I expect the difference with Michigan may come with the pass rush - as talented as Penix is, if he gets the rush that Alabama’s quarterback saw, he’ll need superpowers to match his work in the semi-final game.

I think the Wash line plays much better than Bama’s. That’s been Bama’s weakness all year. They’re a talented bunch, but very young and inexperienced. Texas’ D-line dominated them. We didn’t dominate UW’s O-line.

Yeah. This is bad for E$PN. They rigged the system so that and SEC team would have a shot, and the ESSS EEEE SEEEE team proceeded to lose. I wasn’t interested in the outcome prior to this and really hope nobody watches.

I am actually quite interested in the outcome, but I do not watch because I will not pay for ESPN and its leftist tripe.

Bowl games are SUPPOSED to be a reward for an excellent season and to focus on the games needed to vote for the national championship. The system was not nearly as broke as the fools who claimed it was.

And now we have an attempt at a huge money grab for a few conferences and guess what? The courts side with the athletes and the schools have lost control with the NIL and Transfer Portal!

I remember how when Monday Night Football's season would end like the first week in December and the next Monday Night broadcast was the Liberty Bowl, WITHOUT a sponsor's name on it, and it was exciting for the two schools to play on a Monday night.

We basically created the equivalent of participation trophies for college football teams with the ‘6-win’ threshold for qualifying. And those bowls are not terribly watchable, nor generate a lot of revenue and some will die off.

“Only because Bama got stupid on that final play in OT. What was Milroe thinking?”

If he’s that good a QB, why didn’t roll out of the pocket, and look into the endzone, or run around a corner????

It’s so rigged Bama loses every year. They just go up high and receive lots of hate from bitters like you and Tim Brando. Haven’t won since 2020. Lost five of eight appearances in this system. They aren’t the Mantle Yankees or Bellichick patriots.

My understanding was that the play was supposed to be a pass, but the bad snap forced Milroe to take his eye off the receivers and he just panicked.

Saban called it a dumb call after the game, kind of threw Rees under the bus. The snap was a little off and took his eyes off the line play. Really didn’t have time to react and change the direction.

Alabama OL was pretty spotty all season and it finally bit them in the butt. Let’s not kid ourselves, the Auburn win was LUCKY.

Wow, are you on mushrooms?

Haven’t won in THREE WHOLE YEARS makes it rigged?

Belichick hasn’t won the Super Bowl since 2018, so you still have a few more rigged efforts before you catch him!
