I thought the coverage was pretty good. Penix just consistently put the ball on the money. That kind of passing is hard to stop.
Texas lost because of turnovers and poor coaching decisions. They should have RUN the ball a lot more. 7 yards per attempt all night. I think maybe they planned to in the 2nd half, but giving up a TD on UW’s first drive and then fumbling on their first play blew up the plan.
In at least three of the long-yardage receptions, the Texas DB’s were right on WU’s receivers, and Penix had to make a near perfect throw (which he did) with really athletic receptions to get the completions. Those were marvelous plays.
I expect the difference with Michigan may come with the pass rush - as talented as Penix is, if he gets the rush that Alabama’s quarterback saw, he’ll need superpowers to match his work in the semi-final game.
Went back to watch the highlights and I agree with both of you, the Texas defensive backs did what they could. Penix was hitting that very good receiving corps and there are not too many teams that could defend it. Hope Washington takes Michigan.
