California-based developer Scot Matteson has revealed updated plans for an impressive building project in Lower Bricktown, Oklahoma City. The new proposal, if realized, would feature a colossal 134-story apartment tower, standing at twice the height of the city’s 50-story Devon Energy Center. The proposed skyscraper would not only transform the city’s skyline dramatically but also serve as an iconic landmark, potentially attracting more investments and developments in the area. Furthermore, the 134-story tower aims to provide luxurious living spaces, along with numerous amenities, offering residents a unique and unrivaled experience in the heart of Oklahoma City.

I was thinking the same thing. There’s been more than a few blow through there.

Witcha Falls comes to mind. There is a tower there—I think it still stands—that is twisted from a tornado.

Is this where New York and LA liberals plan to flee when the SHTF?

I thought Tulsa was where all the lefties migrated to be Oklahomos?

“134-story apartment tower, standing at twice the height of the city’s 50-story Devon Energy Center.”

Um, I think it will be much higher than twice…

I have my doubts it’ll be built.

Inside during a tornado may be ok—how about the poor folks on the streets below or in adjacent buildings?

Yikes.

There is a certain economic justification for buildings of this height in a place like New York or Shanghai, where there is a lot of demand to congregate in a limited land area. They are still unwise, but at least there is an outside chance they can become economically viable.

In Oklahoma City, with nearly endless amounts of vacant land to build nice three story corporate campuses that can house thousands of workers more comfortably? It isn't going to work. It's a vanity project for the architect - who should try it in China or Malaysia or Dubai like everybody else.

You are correct. Office space is under occupied downtown and there is a glut of affordable apartments and condos and many under construction without any major growth of existing business or projected new comers. It would take an unprecedented announcement from a 50-100 billion dollar east or west coast company that they were moving everyone here

This article is silly.

There’s no view there.

Oh, oh, you could probably see Kansas. That would be exciting.

I have been in the little bank of oklahoma building in the petroleum club a storm and watched the vertical beams move half the visual width of adjacent buildings. I have also been there when the streets were littered with glass from a blow or tornado that did not touch down.

Not only should this be a dumb idea from a business perspective but also from an engineering one.

Same thoughts here. A 134 story building in tornado alley would ‘make their day’ for the storm chasers.

Forget the 15-minute city. American proles may spend their final days in 15-minute apartment buildings.

No outdoors for you!
