Doctor Who Special Hit With Complaints Over “Inappropriate” Transgender Character

Doctor Who teased a new Rose ahead of the first David Tennant-starring 60th anniversary specials, and revealed early on that the new character with a familiar name would be played by transgender actress Yasmin Finney. While the inclusion of the character, who, like Finney is transgender and very central to the events of the episode entitled “The Star Beast,” was praised by many, the BBC revealed that not everyone was happy about Russell T Davies’ inclusive casting.

Every clip I've seen tells me that Russel T. Davies (producer) only agreed to come back so he could make the show into gay fanfiction. David Tennant's doctor is suddenly gay, and the companians all lecture him as being a stupid man who would only understand things if he was a woman, then he regenerates into a flamboyantly gay black man. It's all gender identity/super gay fanfic now.

And that's just the snippets they released.

"Complaints"? Good grief, it was hit by a supernova-strength Internet blast from furious longtime fans who didn't like seeing their childhood fantasy turned into a simpering, finger-shaking sermon from sexual deviates.

The casting wasn't the problem, or rather wasn't the major problem. The writing reminded me of what was done to Indiana Jones and Luke Skywalker by ideological stooges: turn a former hero into a contemptible chump and displace him with something more acceptable to The Message. And by all reports Tennant was delighted to do it.

Producer turned the decrepit mad scientists who reduced himself in a mutated monster creator of the dalkes that drives around in a dalek base as a wheelchair into a normal white guy. The reason? Because the producer was uncomfortable with a person in a wheel chair being portrayed as bad.

You will get no diverse villains.
