Dex Carvey had followed in his father's footsteps, opening for Dana Carvey in his Netflix special By • Published 10 mins ago
Comedian Dana Carvey and his wife Paula announced the death of their son, Dex Carvey, on Thursday in an emotional tribute posted to Instagram.
Dex Carvey, a 32-year-old comedian, died from an accidental drug overdose, his parents said.
"Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things -- music, art, film making, comedy -- and pursued all of them passionately," the post read in part. "It's not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee."
The former "Saturday Night Live" star and his wife then shared a touching anecdote of how their son shared his love and creativity.
"Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever."
The grieving parents also took the time to reach out to anyone struggling with addiction, saying, "To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers."
Dex Carvey had previously made an appearance on his father's Netflix special, "Straight White Male," and had continued to perform stand-up comedy.
Following his initial post announcing his son's death, Dana Carvey went on to post several touching photos with Dex.
"Dex and me working together. What a joy," Dana Carvey captioned a photo of the pair working and laughing.
I am so sorry. I’ve kept you and your family in my prayers ever since I saw your post about that a few months ago. :(
I lost a good friend in a similar situation in 2002. She was 34.
I saw Dana Carvey a few years ago at a private event. Funniest comedian I’ve ever seen.
Very sad. Doing dope isn’t accidental. Bad things can happen and the person knows that when they imbibe.
I feel sad for the parents. Losing a child is a horrible sorrow.
It would seem his self destructive tendencies overrode his love for life.

Standard phraseology when awaiting toxicology results.

Kinda like the “Friends” guy, Matthew something. His cause of death report was also deferred recently...
Feel sorry for Carvey and wife. He was one of SNLs best.
(Wonder if they were sharing a hot tub?)
Fentanyl?
So sorry for you. So recent. The weight of grief must be great. Prayers are already up.
Then why announce the COD when A) You might now know and B) It’s not official.
I can’t find anything relating to Dex Carvey having any health issues than some weight gain during the lockdown, and nothing about any drug problems, legal or otherwise.
Rest In Peace, Dex.
BTW, when it comes to autopsies these days, standard doesn’t mean what it used to.
They have the nerve to tell us Climate Change is the danger while this plague is killing our young. Kari Lake wanted to do something about it but her election, surprise , surprise, was stolen.
No, if someone is consciously trying to kill themself, then it is not accidental.
I am so sorry. I will be thinking of, and praying for, you and your family.
Perhaps not, but I’ve heard the word “deferred” mentioned in connection with other autopsies that are awaiting toxicology.

I’ve thought of this too as well, and how keeping voters as zombies affects elections.
Accidental drug overdose is when you take something accidently. To take drugs on the expectation of getting high isn’t an accident. You intended to take it.
Our society tolerates illegal drug use too readily. Addicts aren’t poor unfortunate victims who got Covid from shaking hands with wrong person. They are people who think the rules don’t apply to them.
“ Or to tell us the truth.”
When one is in the military, the concept of need to know is acute
We have no need to know the details of this

And they lecture us on how to raise our children.
“Aren’t they all?”
Yes, exactly. If it were not an accidentlal overdose it would be suicide.
There seems to be a lot of denial going on about drug use.
I remember a caller to a radio station saying her child had died “of overdose”, as if “overdose” was some specific medical condition, like appendicitis. It was a very peculiar statement to my ears.
Very sorry to hear this news. Love Dana Carvey, Church lady had it right!
