The NFL is suspending Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson four games for unnecessary roughness after he was ejected from Sunday’s game for a hit he made on Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave, according to a league statement.

“On the play in question, you delivered a forceful blow to the head/neck area of a defenseless receiver, when you had the time and space to avoid such contact. You could have made contact with your opponent within the rules, yet you chose not to,” NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan told Jackson per the statement.
Runyan also noted that Jackson has had multiple offenses for personal fouls this season, highlighting a week two hit against the Washington Commanders’ Logan Thomas, for which he was also ejected.
The four games suspension for Jackson is the most severe punishment for any player since 2019, when the NFL suspended notorious repeat (repeat) offender Vontaze Burfict for 12 games, according to NFL Research.
Jackson will reportedly appeal the suspension, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.
I understand the NFL wanting to promote player safety but this is crazy. That play was worth a flag and nothing more. There was no overt intention there to do anything but knock the ball loose.
Given Broncos head coach Sean Payton’s history — he was suspended for the entire 2012 season after allegedly paying his players to injure the opposing team’s best players in the infamous Bountygate scandal — I can’t help but think the NFL is over-legislating here.
Jackson has had multiple suspensions in the past, which is obviously a factor, but four games is basically a quarter of the season for a play that every defensive back has been coached to make since they were playing Pop Warner. I’m hoping the independent arbiters have some sense here and at least knock off a game or two from the suspension so Jackson can recoup some game checks and pay those hefty fines that are undoubtedly coming.
How that appeal will go may come down to who gets chosen to hear it. His appeal will be heard by either former superstar linebacker Derrick Brooks or former Redskins (yes, back then they were the Redskins) receiver James Thrash, per the NFL statement.
Brooks was one of the most terrifying defenders in NFL history, delivering a countless number of punishing hits on unsuspecting opponents that would no doubt be deemed illegal today. Thrash … was a receiver.
For Jackson’s sake, let’s hope it’s Brooks who gets to hear him out.
Your question has an answer and it's based on the CORE ISSUE that "MONEY CHANGES EVERYTHING!"
That was a good hit! WTH?
He's a thug.
:DNC Talking Points:
This is why I ditched the national felon league.
Interesting interpretation, but remarkably idiotic. He lead with his helmet, and he hit the opposing player in the helmet.

Sorry, but your interpretation is “remarkably idiotic”. I watched the video. The initial (and majority) contact was on the TE’s shoulder not is head. You could see that if you just watched the video.
A tackler must bring his head along with his shoulders to make a tackle. Anyone who has played the game knows how impossible it is to form tackle in today’s version of “football”. Every play is a crapshoot as to whether you’ll be penalized or not. The defender did not lower his head and strike with the crown (regardless of whether he made secondary contact with the receiver’s head/neck). Finally, there is no such thing as a “defenseless receiver” until the whistle is blown. Don’t wanna get tackled? Don’t catch the football and protect yourself from contact? Wanna try to catch the football? Better be ready to get rocked. No wonder the game is turning into Canadian/Arena ball.
Don’t forget OJ.
Who was the Bengals and Raiders LB ... Vontaze Burfict?! That guy was going to kill someone eventually.
No, attempting to injure players is not his job. As the story notes, it’s worthy of a flag, so not his job. And for his suspension that’s what happens to repeat offenders. That’s the 2nd time this season he’s gotten ejected, plus 2 more fines, and he’s taken a lot of unnecessary roughness penalties.
Today's football players work out year-round, have very little body fat, and come at you like a freight train.
A) I did watch the video, several times.
B) I played football in my youth, and I know the difference between a hit meant to stop someone, and a hit meant to injure someone, and that defender went out of his way to make that hit potentially injurious - it is obvious.
C) As I said before, I have no problem with hard hits, but I do have a problem when the hit is clearly reckless, and very likely to cause serious injury.
didn’t they make the Pro Bowl, the NFL All Star Game, a flag football game, and not a real football game?
Switching to cricket would be better. Soccer sucks (IMO).
Take the facemasks off the helmets and the game would be more civilized.

Looks like Black on White violence to me.
What kind of message are they trying to send?
Honestly.
This thing could REALLY teach kids that there are limits to what is allowed. (At least when an official is watching?)
Bring back the leather helmets.
Go back to leather ‘helmets’....................
Watching the Rugby World Cup....Go All Blacks!
I have long wanted football to be distilled into the sheer bloodsport that so many people seem to want anyway. I mean, who are we fooling? Football players are often referred to as ‘gladiators’ so why not just embrace the paradigm?
At the outset of the game the coin toss will take place and one team will take the ball.
Armed with swords, pikes, lances, and shields the two teams will hack and slaughter each other in mortal combat over the movement of the ball. Coaches on the sidelines will pontificate on ‘teamwork’ and sacrifice as their gladiators bleed all over the gridiron.
Fans will scream for more as limbs and heads are severed in battle and at the end of the game the victorious fans will shout about how “we” won the game all while they watched the bloody contest from the comfort of their seats and luxury boxes.
People who denounce the death, violence, lifetime injuries, and associated costs will be called out as pussies who don’t understand the virtues of teamwork and sacrifice that enables billionaire team owners to reap ever more wealth.
Seriously, at the very least I object to taxpayer support for this entertainment industry and I deeply object to the defacto immunity the NFL has when it comes to employee/player disability compensation.
In football the object is for the quarterback, also known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy’s defensive line.
In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! – I hope I’ll be safe at home!

Or Rugby. That’s a man’s sport even when played by women.
