The US Military Is Laying the Groundwork to Reinstitute the Draft

The most recent edition of the US Army War College’s academic journal includes a highly disturbing essay on what lessons the US military should take away from the continuing war in Ukraine. By far the most concerning and most relevant section for the average American citizen is a subsection entitled “Casualties, Replacements, and Reconstitutions” which, to cut right to the chase, directly states, “Large-scale combat operations troop requirements may well require a reconceptualization of the 1970s and 1980s volunteer force and a move toward partial conscription.”

An Industrial War of Attrition Would Require Vast Numbers of Troops

The context for this supposed need to reinstate conscription is the estimate that were the US to enter into a large-scale conflict, every day it would likely suffer thirty-six hundred casualties and require eight hundred replacements, again per day. The report notes that over the course of twenty years in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US suffered fifty thousand casualties, a number which would likely be reached in merely two weeks of large-scale intensive combat.

The military is already facing an enormous recruiting shortfall. Last year the army alone fell short of its goal by fifteen thousand soldiers and is on track to be short an additional twenty thousand this year. On top of that, the report notes that the Individual Ready Reserve, which is composed of former service personnel who do not actively train and drill but may be called back into active service in the event they are needed, has dropped from seven hundred thousand in 1973 to seventy-six thousand now…

Here’s hoping, but IMO history shows that the draftees were much better. Smarter and not criminals, reprobates and such. At least from what I saw during my time 68-76.

During Viet Nam, the SSS got a LOT of good inductees who just didn’t have the money and wherewithal to avoid the draft (money, opportunity or even SSS board connections.)

It won’t be that way if they do it again, IMO. Lawsuits flying everywhere and MSM working feverishly to defeat it.

The bullshite in Ukraine has advanced considerably anti-electronic warfare. There are systems to counter drones, robotics, there are drone killer drones etc. in the end to take and hold land will require flesh and blood.

I think I'd prefer a industrial revolution of attrition. The Deep State aborted all it's recruits to beelzebub. It can't have my children.

--- "The US Military Is Laying the Groundwork to Reinstitute the Draft"

Disclaimer: I was drafted during the reign of Lyndon Baines Johnson, warmonger, and spent olive drab years by conscription.

One looks back to find some Democrats have proposed reinstating the draft for DECADES now.

With an available pool of qualified or qualifiable candidates dwindling for many reasons -- among them feminism and the transsexual movement which means a draftee could come under the command of some genitally-mutliated general or open homosexual -- the "all-volunteer" force is missing its recruitment goals.

My advice to young men today is to avoid military "service" until this whole "woke" mess dies a-borning. As it will.

Yes, only makes register and the SS sight says that is based on your “gender assigned at birth.”

Don’t forget that Democrats LOVE the draft. That and abortion are their best tools for “community organizing.”

Also, they love anything that is destructive of personal freedom. Their problem is that they have to engineer a way to get the draft reinstated and blame that on the Republicans. They can do this by getting us in such a horrible situation with China or something that all they have to do is step back and let the Republicans “do the needful.” Then they will launch protests like during Vietnam.

We are up against evil with these people!

PS: I drew #1 in the Draft Lottery. Signed up, showed up.

The pool of physically and mentally qualified people under the age of 30 has been dramatically reduced. Not only by birth but due our societies new normal.

Your generation that fought in Vietnam are like aliens to young people under 30 today. This new generation are dumber by half but all think they are a genius.

The draft helped the Navy because many people enlisted in the Navy and AF to avoid being drafted into the Army.

The military draft brought the war to the American home front. During the Vietnam War era, between 1964 and 1973, the U.S. military drafted 2.2 million American men out of an eligible pool of 27 million. Although only 25 percent of the military force in the combat zones were draftees, the system of conscription caused many young American men to volunteer for the armed forces in order to have more of a choice of which division in the military they would serve.

The draft is not a very efficient mechanism for the modern military. Significant resources are invested in training on highly technical weapons and communications systems. A two year draft would be a waste of resources.

Why do you think so many military-age males are being allowed to swarm into the country? A slight rule change allowing illegal immigrants to enlist or be drafted and receive immediate citizenship would be a Democrat dream.

Nope. They will draft illegal immigrants. And give them immediate citizenship.

Tell that to the dead Russian general officers and staffs in the three major Crimean head quarters that were destroyed last week

None of which will lead to them accepting the chance of being drafted.

Yeah I should have included job environment.

Yeah, the budget would have to go up. But the budget would go up with a draft too. Just the administrative aspect of a draft (running the whole lottery, chasing down dodgers, increased insubordination, decreased effectiveness) is expensive too.

The military needs to accept the fact that it’s a job. And make the job attractive. Period.

According to the College's website "Federal funds support the core mission of the U.S. Army War College". So who is really raising the conscription issue? Very unlikely that something like this would be published if it wasn't in consonance with official thinking. Just saying.

Mike Pence Says US Troops May Have to Fight If Ukraine Doesn’t Repel Russia

Don't you just love REMFs like Pence who are so eager to put our sons and daughters in harm's way?

You just nailed your coffin shut when it comes to getting the nomination.

If Milley Vanilli and Flounder Vindman had been around 20 years ago, they would be in Leavenworth right now making little rock out of big rocks for trying to destroy a U.S. President who wasn’t communist like them.

The military doesn’t get to make that choice. And the draft is never coming back. The military doesn’t get to make that choice. And the draft is never coming back.

If w3 try to bring back the draft, I support protests against the draft. It's unconstitutional.
