This is an ongoing thread – meaning come back to chat, post information, or ask questions any time. Hopefully the thread won’t stagnate and I’ll do better at posting weekly (or bi-weekly) topics than I have in the past. (anyone willing to post a topic now and then we'll be highly praised and appreciated).
We are in for some bumpy rides, and prepping can only help. If for peace of mind, if nothing else. We have a wonderful gardening thread and a current-events survival/prepping thread, and hopefully this one can piggyback off of those, maybe having a longer discussion about certain topics or … whatever. It's your thread, do what you like with it! (civilly, of course)
Here are granny’s threads, if anyone wants to peruse them:

That does sound good, and I do have these beautiful red and yellow tomatoes. Hamburgers are one of my favorite things. But I load them up with ketchup and mayonnaise and mustard, four different kinds, sometimes barbecue sauce and steak sauce. I like them juicy. And it’s not pretty when I eat. And I need lots of napkins. But it’s so yummy!
Oh I thought you had someone coming over. Why don’t you see if hubby would like popcorn and ice-cream? You might be surprised. I know he would.
Don’t forget the cheese! Maybe some pickled jalepeno peppers? Or kosher dill pickles! Now I’m hankering for one as well. CottonBall’s fault.
Pound of ground beef
Rice
Tomatoes
Onion
Corn
Mushrooms (optional)
Worcestershire sauce
Beef broth or bullion.
Chop onion and brown with beef and rice (uncooked) This is also where you can put in the mushrooms
When beef is browned add in beef broth a bit less then you would use for that amount of rice.
About ten minutes of cooking add in the tomatoes and corn. You can use fresh, frozen or canned. Do add the liquid as it will give more flavor.
Once the rice is done add the Worcestershire sauce to taste.
Eat.
I have also cooked it to the point where you add in the corn and tomatoes, put it in a casserole and put it in the oven with cheese. Needs about minutes to half hour.
Oh that’s not my kitty, I just found that picture and kept it for rusty. Yeah these days it could be a him or a her! Let’s hope that kind of stuff hasn’t transferred to any animal kingdom. We Will find some extinct species if it does.
I’ve always wanted a red Tabby and never got one. I kept one of the red ones from the first letter but my dog couldn’t stand him. He was such a sweet kitten, and all he wanted to do was play and lay by Cooper but Cooper wouldn’t have it. So I found him a good home. Now Cadbury messes with Cooper all the time, even worse, he’ll jump on top of him and sneak out from behind something to swat at him. And Cooper doesn’t react at all. Just different personalities I guess, some get along and some don’t.
That’s really good to know about medicare, thank you. My husband has been very forgetful lately and I’ve been wondering about him. But if I suggest it he will fly off the handle. So that I guess he has about 7 more years. He’ll be really bad by then, if that’s what it is!
“Why don’t you see if hubby would like popcorn and ice-cream? You might be surprised. I know he would.”
LOL!
That sounds good, and easy. And best of all I have everything. Oh even better it uses up tomatoes.
HTB, you’ve been real consistent on the prepping threads. Can you think of any topics that you might want to see posted? I’m making a list. The more I have the longer I’ll keep at it, it’s when I have absolutely no ideas and the thread is really quiet that I just gradually drift away. I don’t want that to happen this time! I’ll get out in front of it first.
Stew is easy. Brown the meat, add veggies and flavorings, then simmer till done.
Do they actually change gender or just think they’ve done it?
I’ve been thinking about stuffed peppers.
It looks like this
Table of contents, even with links! That’s a lot of HTML. I’ll add that to my file on your prepper library. I’m not sure if the links will copy?
I like those too. Or cabbage rolls. I don’t know why I never remember those.
What did you end up making?
Excellent! Thank you
I am a couple days late to your new thread inauguration. I love the idea
I used to follow Granny in her reclusive cabin and her great thread - she was really something else.
I’m not sure if I’m on the ping list or not but please add me.
Have you already chosen or made what you’re doing with the ground beef?
I would’ve had a lot of suggestions for you that could be a little bit of a step above the ordinary with next to no extra work . I’m sorry I’m late to the party.
In fact one of the things is some thing I’m doing with ground meat for my son tonight and it should be special
it’s a open face caprice burger. you do your burgers with shredded mozzarella a little bit of seasoned bread crumbs and heavy oregano and garlic - make patties -Bake or broil- However you like to do them then- put on one of your thick tomato slices -top w/some raw mozzarella and put under the broiler or bake a bit to melt cheese. you serve with a balsamic reduction glaze . it is really so outstanding in taste and very attractive and very delicious main course I serve it with mashed potatoes and any vegetable that you might want
Love stuffed peppers!
I made stuffed eggplant the other day. Well, I mostly watched, but it felt like I made it lol. I did eat it!
Stuffed eggplant and stuffed peppers are great to make in those disposable aluminum roasting pans, freeze, and pull out for dinner when you’re in a hurry. Such a good winter meal with homemade bread and a salad.
Something weird is going on. I’m starting to get the cooking bug again. I just ordered everything needed for French Onion Soup and a big tray of Lasagna. It must be the change of seasons that’s making me think of all of the yummy cool weather food.
