20 rattlesnakes found inside a homeowner's garage in Arizona

MESA, Ariz. -- An Arizona man called a snake removal company after seeing what he thought were three rattlesnakes lurking in the garage of his Mesa home. He was wrong.

There actually were 20 snakes — five adult western diamondback rattlers and 15 babies. One of the adult snakes also was pregnant.

Snake wrangler Marissa Maki found most of the rattlers coiled around the base of a hot water heater in the unidentified homeowner’s cluttered garage Tuesday.

“That is a lot of snakes. I’m not going to lie. This is crazy,” Maki said in a YouTube video recorded by the company, Rattlesnake Solutions.

The western diamondbacks, with their distinctive triangular-shaped heads, are found throughout the Southwest. And though their venom is far less toxic than other rattlesnake species, they still require care when being handled.

The physical comes as the venom starts to destroy the flesh around the bite and workings its way out from there. The cure will devastate your wallet if you do not have insurance. Thankfully both were minimized by quick treatment (within a few hours) and having insurance. I understand rattle snake venom works much quicker. There is anti-venoms made for all kinds of venomous creatures, spiders, ticks, various aquatic creatures. Some require different methods to obtain the venom from them, and most likely different methods for creating the anti-venom as well.

As someone who handles snakes => the tool is not warm, so it does not always trigger the snake’s strike response. Sometimes they do strike at the stick, but no harm no foul. Others will thrash mouth open and try to strike after caught. It is surprising how strong a very muscular snake is, and how far some can reach. I could not recommend trying any of this unless you are quite skilled. Even “professionals” get bit sometimes:

FREER, Texas — A rattlesnake handler died after he was bitten by a snake at the Rattlesnake Roundup in Texas on Saturday. Eugene De Leon Sr., 60, of the Snake Busters Snake Handlers in Freer, around 100 miles north of San Antonio, was bitten by a rattlesnake while performing at the annual show Saturday afternoon. The bite came four years after his son, Eugene De Leon, was bitten by a two-foot long rattlesnake on the inside of his left thumb.

Even she was amazed at the numbers. Imagine if the pregnant female had given birth too, before she had arrived. 😋

On the Air Force Academy, there was an old NCO club. When the started to demolish it they uncovered a humongous rattlesnake nest under the foundation. There were literally estimated to be millions of them, as it was a rather large structure.

They ended up dynamiting the nest.

It depends on where the bite is and where the venom is deposited. If, by bad luck, the venom is injected into or very near a large blood vessel, things happen very quickly, and there may not be any effective treatment as venom flowing in the bloodstream gets deposited into and starts to digest internal organs.

No problem. They mentioned it in the article, but they never provided a link to it. They did, however, state the company name which I used to search on YT. I figured since I found it interesting, others might also. So I added it to the thread.

Sounds like the rattlesnakes were stunned to find a human in *their* house.

Its interesting....
I’ve been in AZ for 5 years and have never seen a rattlesnake.
Saw several in CA and nearly stepped on one in Colorado.
Found out they are very common in Colorado front range.

That is true. In my case it was my pinkie finger on my right hand, and the baby apparently only got me with one fang, as there was only one hole. So, I was lucky, but unlucky as well. 🙂

Insurance wouldn’t have covered any of that cost. Now 2,500 that I had to pay, maybe. 2K just might have swayed me though. 😋

Snake wrangler Marissa Maki found most of the rattlers coiled around the base of a hot water heater …
“Have you ever, have you thought of hot water heaters? ‘Pardon me; I said… I’d like to buy a hot water heater.’ ‘What the h— for? Hot water doesn’t need to be heated. You must want a cold water heater. How about a hot water cooler?’”

— George Carlin
I always knew them as “water heaters”, myself.

Perfect place for snakes; free source of radiant energy without having to move far.

I still shake out my boots and shoes every time I put them on even though we don’t have scorpions where I live now. Use to get those little brown ones all over the place back where I lived.

ABC really missed the boat here by not blaming the rattlesnake infestation on Climate Change. But maybe that’ll be fixed in an update.

Lol...I thought something was missing. "Rattlesnakes in garages are expected to increase to dangerous levels as manmade climate change drives snakes indoors."
