Item ordered on August 31 as of this morning has not yet shipped. This is an item sold and stocked by Amazon, it does not involve a third-party vendor. I tried to cancel the order this morning online. Received an email stating the following verbatim:
"Unfortunately, we weren’t able to cancel the items you requested and these items will soon be shipped. We apologize for the inconvenience."
What? What does "soon be shipped" have to do with it? That's the same as saying the order hasn't been shipped. In other words, you just can't cancel. In the past Amazon said the reason why a purchase cannot be cancelled is because it had ALREADY been shipped. That doesn't work anymore. They've refined it.
I'm cancelling because I found the item in a local store and can purchase it today as it is needed for a job I am doing now and receipt of the item through Amazon will take another five days.
Why it takes Amazon thirteen days to get me an item it already has in its warehouse is beyond sanity. I hate this company so damned much I can't stand it.
I called customer service and a third world agent told me he would have to request the cancellation manually and it would take 48 hours to go through. I could not get an explanation from him as to why he felt it necessary to give me that piece of information.
This company is out of control they do nothing for the little guy. It's all about the money. This is NOT the Amazon I used to deal with for years. They were always accommodating, but now that everything is AI their customer service has turned to merde.
Over the past six months I have spent over Eight Thousand Dollars in Amazon purchases but no more for me. I am done.
I have been finding reliable alternative online suppliers who are prompt in shipment and appreciative of my business and am increasingly weaning away from this obstructive, controlling, arrogant, unresponsive behemoth.
Caveat Emptor, folks.
Okay, got it. My ears are too shot to appreciate anything but higher volume.
If I could buy local, I happily would, if the price were comparable. Usually, though, it’s not even a matter of price, the item is simply not available locally. And even in a city area like Reno and Sparks, with nearly half a million people, my shopping options are very limited, limited stock. Out of curiosity, I just glanced through the last 20 items purchase via Amazon, only three could’ve been picked up locally.
Amazon has created substantial competition.
Most everything available on Amazon is available with free shipping on Ebay. I use Ebay and Pay Pal
I opened a Walmart account ant found it to be the same. To my surprise, extreme surprise, the vitamins I ordered on line were delivered to my door within two hours of placing the order.
It really is that easy. Just don’t do business with someone that you don’t want to. Give me a break.
They do have drop boxes scattered here and there if the item is small enough, and you are issued an RMA label
Thank you. And I assume it make a huge difference in sound quality?
At one point in the recent past (maybe last year), my wife actually found a phone number to call for Amazon to get problems like yours corrected. |
A UPS Store clerk gave me this number to Amazon Customer Service recently when I was trying to return an assembled item that could not be disassembled...
1-888-280-4331.
I called it. Got quite decent customer service actually.
If I could buy local, I happily would....

Me too. Thing is - I live so far out in the sticks that it takes 45 minutes to even get to a WalMart. Or an HEB for groceries.
I do get Kroger delivery. I’m not sure how or why. There are no Kroger’s within 200 miles of here, but they have an excellent app which allows for 2 day delivery of most any food item.
I think HEB (biggest grocery chain in Texas) is trying to play catch up.
HEB moving to DFW was a big deal a few months ago, I went there, and was underwhelmed.
Give them time.
HEB eliminated the national chains like Kroger and Albertsons in San Antonio, Austin and Houston.
Same brand.
Home Depot, 1/3 HP, $130
Amazon 1/2 HP, $65
Oh this modern. I remember when everything was “please allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery”. Now we’re up in arms over something taking a week and a half.
You bought local and got what you needed. When Amazon item arrives, return it and be done with them.
On Sept. 1 I ordered some paint on Amazon from Dupli-Color Store but cancelled soon the next day since and was told it was being prepped to ship and they did not know if it could be cancelled, but that I would get an email if it good. And the only update from Amazon I got was on Sept 6 that it was shipped. But that “This item is non-returnable, but you may contact Customer Service to request a refund or replacement.’
Yeah, that’s been my experience too. Just return it when he gets it. Amazon provides free shipping and all the purchaser has to do it take it to the nearest UPS store.
Absolutely.
Improving the sound quality at the source always is the best place to start.
As an aside, as a marketing entrepreneur I am the exclusive US rep for very high end audio brands from Europe & Far East. At one time I represented Japanese vacuum tube amplifiers with a $350k top model.
I’ve also provided technical assistance to a critically acclaimed mastering engineer in his remastering of classic & iconic albums and received mastering credits on the albums.
Maybe you should not buy stuff you’re not really sure you want or need.
My view of Amazon is that, at almost 90, I’m too old to attempt to live without it...
Maybe one minor issue with Amazon (excluding its owner) in the past decade...
This is the answer. Keep it a couple of days and file for return.
Tell them it doesn't work or they will charge you shipping. I've done that a few times and works every time.
I spend enough with them I don't mind doing this. Especially in an instance like yours.
