My 13 year old nephew has come to live with me, I am a widower and my brother's wife (his mother) is seriously ill and hospitalized.
There is all kinds of crap I need to overcome to get him enrolled in the local public school and I am not sure it is in his best interests anyway.
So I will be retiring at the end of the week and giving him the attention of one of the best instructors on the planet-- me.
He asked me why I despised CNN and I told them their fear pornography was worse than standard soft core porn that featured just nekkid women. I didn't want him watching that, but I felt it was far less damaging that watching CNN.
He asked me why I had CNN on my Roku streaming package. I told him because I thought it came standard and I didn't know how to get rid of it.
He figured it out in less than two minutes.
You are probably correct. We all recognize the damage porn does. On the other hand, CNN’s damage spreads in so many directions and no one doubts it.
You have a GREAT opportunity to mold a real man.
Don’t send him to a public school, for God’s sake.
If you had to choose, soft core is less harmful, I believe.

Have you checked out your state’s home schooling requirements? The homeschooling people are very orderly and have access to amazing resources and support. There are also superior online resources now as well.
CNN espouses communism and communism has done more damage to mankind than soft core porn ever will. It’s absolutely worse.
Technically, willingly watching soft core porn is against the Commandments, and puts the soul in jeopardy of going to hell.
CNN is simply lies 24/7 with nice suits and makeup. Hearing lies doesn’t condemn the soul. However, watching CNN in theory improves their ratings and, by extension, COULD make you culpable to lying which is also Bad.
I’d tell your nephew that lies and porn are both against God’s will. He’d be better off unplugging and going to the range with you.
Try to homeschool! There are many supportive threads on FR.
Also, I would advise joining the HSLDA. They are advocates with lots of lawyers. Also offer a lot of good advice.

Keep him away from any cable or broadcast news. They all lie and all have an agenda. Unless you are going to watch with him and explain propaganda techniques news companies use it is best avoided. Give him the classics to read. Find out what hobbies and interests he has and educate him in those. Give him a musical instrument and lessons. Get him an arduino hobby kit so he can learn coding. Mostly teach him how to think and how to recognize the evil we are surrounded by with these marxists destroying everything around him. Let him know he is not the root of all evil and an irredeemable racist as the evil democrats would have him believe. There is only MAN and WOMAN. If he wants to be wealthy make something lots of stupid people buy, or something stupid people can make. (I regret going in to engineering especially when it was so easy for the swamp rats to shutter my industry over kung flu panic) I could go on for days lamenting things I wish I were taught as a boy but I was raised by extremely liberal parents.
