A family in Indiana is mourning the loss of a 35-year-old mother-of-two who they said died after drinking 64 ounces of water in 20 minutes.

Ashley Summers was celebrating the Fourth of July on a lake in Indiana when she started to feel intensely dehydrated, according to her brother, Devon Miller.

"At one point during the day, she started getting a bad headache," Miller told "Good Morning America." "So, she was drinking a lot of water."

Miller said Summers drank the equivalent of four 16-ounce bottles of water in 20 minutes, and then later collapsed inside the garage of her home.

Ironically, if she had had Mountain Dew instead of water, she's still be alive.

Weird. This doesn't seem like a crazy amount of water outside on a super hot day.

I remember we had some note on us in Basic stating that we would drink between blank, but not to exceed blank canteens per hour.
Someone had recently died of hyponatremia.

She probably saw someone drinking a liquid and asked what it was. Someone said H20 - she replied, I'll have some H202.

Think about it.

According to my Marine son, in boot camp they were forced to drink water until they puked. No one died. Crazy.

Nothing to do with the Vax. Water intoxication is nothing new.

A lot of people die from over-ingestion of dihydrogen monoxide each year.

My urologist would have probably said “Well done. good for you!”

He wants me to drink as much water as humanly possible (kidney stones)

Yup. Especially since she was supposedly dehydrated at the start.

My guess is that she wasn't dehydrated and the headaches were from, *ahem*, something else.

It happened to me and it’s not pleasant - you have to get that IV of electrolytes in there ASAP. Even so I was in the hospital for a couple of days.

The amount probably to some extent depends on your body size and weight, but you don’t really know your tolerance so a general guideline is good.

But the moral of the story is don’t drink plain water - always something with electrolytes or even a sweetened beverage.

I use Liquid IV powdered electrolytes to put into my water bottle when I’m doing outdoor activities. Highly recommended!

64 ounces is not a lot. This story is missing some essential information.

I dunno, half a gallon in 20 minutes is a LOT of water. Her stomach must have been very distended!

No, as I said it’s happened to me and the headaches are caused as the brain begins to swell. The salts balance in your body is very delicate but crucial. The sodium-potassium balance is the key.

A gallon of water in that period of time is probably too much for anybody. Electrolytes are crucial for hydration during hot weather exercise or any activity.

My cardiologist tells me to drink ten 12 ounce glasses of water every day. Then my cardiac surgeon tells me to stop drinking so much water. My general practitioner knows not to tell me anything.

Do your doctors make you wait in the waiting room and treatment room for hours after your appointments? We discovered if you tell them you tested positive for Covid, a nurse comes out to your car, looks at you, gives you scripts for your sore throat or flu / cold symptoms, and you're on your way in 15 minutes. It works great at my GP office. Sure you have to park next to the dumpster by the back door, but I don't lose 3 hours out of my day.

I've heard of people dying from water toxicity, typically ecstasy users or people with serious OCD issues but they're usually drinking gallons of water. Here we're talking about a half gallon. I could easily chug this with no problem if I was hot and thirsty. Sure, I might have to piss a lot but it doesn't seem like a crazy amount.

Her electrolytes were probably already F’d up when she drank this is my guess.
I usually only put away half this after a hard workout, and half is aminos and half is Liquid IV.
I’m 6’2” and relatively muscular 215.

I do agree it seems unusual.
