Vegan influencer Zhanna D'Art 'dies of starvation and exhaustion' after switching to restrictive tropical fruit diet

A vegan raw food influencer who lived on a diet of exotic fruit has reportedly died from starvation and exhaustion.

Zhanna Samsonova, originally from Russia, had been living in South-East Asia and eating an exclusively raw vegan diet consisting of 'fruits, sunflower seed sprouts, fruit smoothies and juices' for the past five years.

However her eating habits became worryingly restrictive in the last few months of her life according to her friends.

The 40-year-old, known as Zhanna D'Art online, passed away on July 21 reportedly from a 'cholera-like infection' exacerbated by 'exhaustion of the body by a vegan diet' her mother told Russian newspaper Vechernyaya Kazan.

Zhanna's official cause of death has not yet been determined as her family try to get her body back to Russia.

The food blogger's mum Vera Samsonova told local news outlets Zhanna was supposed to fly home to Kazan on the day of her death.

Vera did not approve of her daughter's extreme diet and tried to convince her to introduce more balanced eating habits but she refused.

Speaking with Newsflash, an anonymous friend of Zhanna claimed they saw Zhanna a few months ago in Sri Lanka 'looking exhausted'.

'They sent her home to seek treatment. However, she ran away again. When I saw her in Phuket, I was horrified,' they said.

It looks like she also may have had body dysmorphia.

"Reportedly died" is a dubious claim.

Anyhow, here's the woman in question:

Various accounts i read seems like lots of sugar from fruits, not much protein (only some seeds?) seems missing key things the body needs.

I also wonder if she got shots. I hadnt seen about that possibility.

Only fruit? One needs fruits, vegetables, legumes and grains.

Anorexia. A vegan diet is just classic distraction in women with eating disorders. Anorexia also doesn’t age well.

I *HATE* the term *influencer*.

Who decided that someone is an *influencer* in the first place?

And it makes it sound like people actually cared about what that person had to say or that they were actually important.

At one point there was a fad diet called *The Garden of Eden* diet. Seems some people thought it was good for you because that’s how Adam and Eve ate and God told them to eat that way. Except it never seems to have occurred to them that we no longer have Garden of Eden bodies.

Reminds me of the vegan troll named JEC we had in forum awhile back.
He was quite the typical vegan, every stereotype of such imaginable.

[*influencer*]

From what little I’ve seen, they often do tremendous damage to people who glom on to them like they’re cult leaders.

And then that damage spreads like a cancer to the people surrounding the person “influenced” by a total stranger.

Telling them to throw out their stuff, start arguments with people around them, go on anti-(whatever) crusades, etc.

This became a problem with the lockdowns as people grasped to find some meaning in their life by watching only TikTok and YouTube.

These “influencers” just give me a headache. A pox on all of them.

Yikes, she was not looking good there. I’d like to lose some weight but not THAT much weight.

“The 40-year-old, known as Zhanna D’Art online, passed away on July 21 reportedly from a ‘cholera-like infection’...

People are focusing on her diet and ignoring her CHOLERA which is a bacterial infection of the intestine that kills by diarrhea and dehydration. It’s mostly a 3rd world disease and is spread by feces contaminated drinking water. These days it’s easily treated with antibiotics and intravenous hydration. Cholera is extremely rare in the U.S.. I wonder where she bought her fruit and if she had any migrant friends?

[that kills by diarrhea and dehydration]

Yeah, but that’s the point. Her condition was severely-weakened by her life style. She had no margin for error to survive it (would be my guess).

I’ve been through the diarrhea and dehydration at least a couple of times. First time I’m absolutely convinced it came from the water (small river trip). Some sort of infection from the water during a canoe mishap (as often happens when it’s rocky - downed trees, etc.)

Messed me up substantially for at least 6 months and many of the effects lasted for years (about 2-3). I could no longer consume dairy (milk, ice cream) without reactions. I fought it back and those eventually stabilized.

But yeah, boy did I LOSE weight during those periods (I had forgotten that I once had a flat stomach).

Should not have gone back to my old eating habits. Oops.
