Bud Light sales suffered a major decline over the July 4th holiday weekend as the boycott against the brand continues, industry data shows.
Bud Light sales plunged by 23.6% in the one week period ending July 8th compared to 2022 levels, according to Nielsen IQ dollar sales data provided to the Daily Caller by Bump Williams Consulting. In the four week period ending July 8th, Bud Light sales dropped by 27.1% as the consumer boycott against Bud Light continues.
Budweiser, another Anheuser-Busch brand, saw a 6.6% drop in sales in the week ending July 8th and a 10.7% drop in the four week period ending July 8th, the sales data shows. Rival beer brands Coors Light and Miller Lite had a 30.2% and 25.3% sales increase in the week ending July 8th. Modelo Especial had a 20.7% uptick in sales for the same time period.
The boycott against Bud Light began in early April after transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney posted advertisements on social media to promote the brand. Mulvaney, a biological male who identifies as a transgender female, was sent customized beer cans by Bud Light to celebrate one year of being transgender.
Conservatives accused Bud Light of promoting transgender ideology by partnering with Mulvaney, who previously interviewed President Joe Biden about his support for transgender procedures for minors.
The Bud Light boycott was intensified by unearthed comments from Bud Light marketing executive Alissa Heinerscheid where she trashed the brand’s “fratty” and “out of touch” image. Heinerscheid and another marketing executive were later fired for the Mulvaney partnership, the Daily Caller first reported.
Anheuser-Busch is trying to win customers back with a summer marketing campaign featuring NFL stars, concerts, giveaways and the “Bud Knight” mascot. The company’s U.S. CEO Brendan Whitworth refused to say in a late June interview whether it was a mistake for Bud Light to partner with Mulvaney.
The transgender influencer accused Anheuser-Busch of abandonment after the Bud Light boycott began. Anheuser-Busch responded to Mulvaney by restating its commitment to the LGBT community.
anyone know when the 2q results are due?
August 3
The 2nd quarter report will show the initial damage, as the tranny controversy started in April. That comes out Aug 3.
The 3rd quarter report will show the FULL majesty of their screwup, as that will show all the “fail to reorder” from all the bars, supermarkets, and distributors.
She and her immediate superiors are now unemployed.................
InBev is a Belgian, read Euro-trash, outfit that does not understand Americans or American ways at all.
They think everyone should think like a European. They got a wake-up call and now they are paying the price.............
The entire AB corporation should have been kicked to the curb.
That is telling..................
I recently watched that SNL skit again. Lord it was funny.
The fact that not only has Bud Lite dropped from the top 10 in sales, but now Mexican import Modelo is the number one selling beer in the US is astounding. Even more astounding is this all happened in less than four months. This shift to Modelo may also bring a seismic shift in the public’s beer tastes. Bud Lite was a cheap watery beer that held the market by price and the public being long accustomed to drinking watery beer. Now the public is rapidly growing accustomed to drinking a different style of beer and even with rebates as much as $15 a case Bud Lite sales are still tanking. AB at this point would be better off to simply kill the Bud Lite brand.
I could be wrong, but I think it will be devastating......................Stockholders will demand heads....................
My Latino neighbors, Honduras and Mexico, are buying Bud Light because it’s cheap with the rebates.
They don’t pay any attention to news or American cultural stuff, so they don’t know about the Mulvaney controversy. They just know the Gringo Beer is cheap. I saw one neighbor tote in five cases...................
Never has been. It was a successful 'rebranding' of the beer. That's why it has been so effective. They keep using that bogus low 20s percentage in media propaganda. I think that number is crap. It's a lot more than that.
Exactly. Personally, I prefer the moniker "Tranny Fluid". Completely rebranding a product is not easy. I'm not sure there is anything at all they could do.
They will probably just try and ride out the storm, for a few months and see if things improve by Christmas.
If I were them, I’d try and win back the College ‘Frat boys and gals’ first, since they seem to be more ‘woke’ already.............
Yup. I've seen the same. The only thing propping up sales at all are illgals.
I watched some Alissa Heinerscheid footage. She is the prototypical product of woke University education. She can’t imagine other viewpoints much less understand. She was educated in an incubator of liberal thought. It used to be understood that the purpose of University education was to take the proventialism we all start with and expand the viewpoint. That’s no longer the objective. No worries it cost billions in lost revenue.
I bet all the guys (white men that were true marketing geniuses) that lost their jobs to the current group of know-it-all vaginas are just loving this.
Men build things, women tear them down and then complain about the squalor.
Just as likely one or more of their woke employees pushing their agenda, backfired spectacularly.
Others in the field see this for what it is, and hopefully think twice before going all in on something so stupid.
Yes, it’s pretty revealing. Still, she’s 39 and really should have learned better by now. But the corporate environment is a cocoon and she’s Harvard and Wharton, and lives in an 8 million dollar Manhattan apartment, so not a lot of personal contact with her actual market. Her team looks like the Smith College glee club, so same there. I think the demographic she was after was her own and if the ads pleased her, they were what she needed. Sloppy work.
Talk about not being familiar with your customer base.
I didn’t realize she was almost 40. I guess her juvenile mannerisms fooled me into thinking she was younger.
