Paint like an Egyptian [x-rays used on ancient tomb paintings]

Scientists x-rayed ancient Egyptian tomb paintings to better understand the painters' creative process.

Every painter has a process, but the painstaking revisions and countless tiny edits are invisible to those who only see the final product. In a study published today in PLOS ONE, researchers used x-rays to reveal how 3000-year-old paintings inside Egypt’s Theban Necropolis unfolded step by step. The findings hint at the creative process used to produce these ancient masterworks.

Applying the x-ray method to ancient Egyptian wall paintings “is really a game changer,” says Marine Cotte, a chemist at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, who previously collaborated with the study’s authors but was not involved with this work...

When the researchers emerged to analyze their data, the results surprised them. Many Egyptologists believed the sheer number of Egyptian paintings inside the Necropolis would have required an assembly line process, with no room for artists to return and redo work. Yet x-rays of a well-known portrait of Rameses II... revealed traces of an earlier version underneath. The previous depiction of Rameses II had a shorter crown, a different scepter, and an altered necklace—“a remarkable encounter with the ghost of the painters at work,” the team writes in the paper.

I would really like to know when they are going to try to break into the so-called “hidden cavity” above the Grand Gallery in the Great Pyramid…

The Pharaoh doesn't approve, you must repaint.

Or you are crocodile chow.

For some reason I'm reminded of a sweating artist presenting a portrait showing a handsome heroic king to the king who is a shrunken, wrinkled, evil looking figure.

The king says "not bad, not bad at all..."

Every painter has a process, but the painstaking revisions and countless tiny edits are invisible to those who only see the final product.

If the final product looks tedious, imagine what's behind the scenes? *Shudder*

Did he give his life for tourism?

Gen 41

44. And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt:
45. And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-Paaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On; And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt:

שם יוסף צפנת פענח

Egyptian key:

Ankh: ענח

Hebrew key:

developer: מְפַתֵּחַ
key: מַפְתֵחַ

From the root patach, from which comes petach,

פֶּתַח
opening, doorway, door, entrance, hatch, gateway

Egypt means "house of the ka (life force: koach, power) of Ptah".

Ptah [פתח] was Egypt's creator god.

After the 10th plague, Pharaoh showed Moses the door.

"There's the door!!!"

And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt:

I've *really* got to get a post up about the big mystery of the Great Pyramid of Kufu, how they built it.

I kinda figure that people gave Noah a wide berth for him to work on his project. He was the village eccentric engaged in some massive yet pointless endeavor, bless his heart.

5EED

Unicode character:

Wiktionary gives the component parts. The pictogram for the first one (radical 53) is "a house that is built to depend on a cliff".

The Japanese gives the meaning of a dotted cliff, canopy (Google Translate returns with "roof")

A protecting covering, overhang of sorts.

The meanings given for the second component start off with

to store up crops; to store cereal crops
to accumulate; to amass; to store; to gather
to hold in store; to store up (for future use); to be latent
to stagnate; to become stagnant
to add up; to sum up to
accumulated goods

The meanings go on, breaking down into further components like wheat, stalk, money.

Together the imagery paints a picture of a storehouse, even by extension, a treasury. Seems to go the way of a shelter though, as Radical 53 looks more like a bus stop or the beginning of a game of hangman. Maybe that's an open window on top, an egress canopy.

I'm merely sizing up the glyph as a unified theme because no translation is provided for 5EED. Nothing set in stone, just making some observations.

The simple obvious move was to toss it into Google's translator. It returned with "the". English, Spanish, German, Italian... whatever "the" is, that was its name. Strange and unexpected.

In German it returned with "Die", the fem. form, but in Italian it provided the masc. in all caps: IL.

In any case "the" is *the definite article*, the real deal you might say.

In Hebrew the result was, as you might expect then, "ה".

Hei -- like what Joseph said, "Hei is SEED for you".

Value = 5

5EED as it were.

廭 🤔

Paint like an Egyptian [x-rays used on ancient tome paintings]

The name Serach

Considering all that Serach knows, her great age, and her meriting to enter Gan Eden alive, you just might find this one interesting.

(Come on now, kids. You know you want it. It's like crack for seriously studious people.)

Here's an overview about the search for the meaning of the name, with various opinions for better or worse. The direction went in the way of tagging it to the root beginning with a samech. The etymology is what I will come back to (through the elements of the midrashim), which is why I linked that page.

From the noun סרח (serah), excess, from the verb סרח (sarah), to go free.

This section on the Wiki page has a general round-up of traditions, including:

The best known of the midrashim about her tells of how she was the first to inform Jacob that his son Joseph was still alive. Fearing that the news would be too much of a shock for the old man, however, she informs Jacob while he is praying, by playing a harp and singing in rhyme that Joseph is "alive and living in Egypt, and has two sons, Menassah and Ephraim." (Egypt in Hebrew is Mizraim, which rhymes with Ephraim.) In return, Jacob blesses her, saying "May you live forever and never die." According to this midrash, Serach was eventually permitted to enter heaven alive, something achieved only by a scant few others.[5]

The summary is that Serach was sent as a messenger to inform her grandfather of the big news about Joseph.

She did so by playing her harp, and her blessing was to enter heaven alive.

An angel is a malakh [מלאך]. The word means a messenger, and

The word angel arrives in modern English from Old English engel (with a hard g) and the Old French angele.[7] Both of these derive from Late Latin angelus, which in turn was borrowed from Late Greek ἄγγελος angelos (literally "messenger").[8]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel#Etymology

In common tradition, angels are depicted as playing harps in the heavens. A general search on why do angels play harps will pull up the Book of Revelation for a Biblical reference, but the the heavenly harp players are not identified as angels. The main idea is the ultimate in soothing, peaceful music played by innocents, in any case. Calms everyone down.

Back to Serach the messenger girl. Her name was linked with the root beginning with a samech [סרח].

Compare Klein's, by coming in from a different direction (L/R sound swap). Besides the shin is a sin is a samech line, consider a switch in the second radical, from a lamed to a resh (ala Engrish), and here's a good case for Miss Serach being the one sent out on the intel missions, as per the traditions, even continuing to play her harp as an angel (messenger) in heaven.

שׁלח ᴵ to send; to stretch out, extend.
    — Qal - שָׁלַח 1 he sent; 2 he stretched out, extended; 3 he let loose; 4 he sent a message.
 — Niph. - נִשְׁלַח 1 was sent, was dispatched, was transmitted; NH 2 he was ordered to go.
    — Pi. - שִׁלַּח 1 he sent away, sent off; 2 he sent out, sent forth; 3 he let loose, let go, set free, let loose; 4 he stretched out, extended; 5 he dismissed; 6 he divorced.

שֶֽׁלַח ᴵ m.n. missile, weapon. [Prob. related to Ugar. shlḥ (= javelin, dart), Arab. silāḥ, silḥ (= arm, weapon), maslaḥa (= armed forces), Akka. shalū (= to shoot arrows), shiltaḫu (= arrow), perhaps also to shēlu (= javelin, dart). Some scholars connect these words with שׁלח ᴵ (= to send), and compare Arab. saraḥa with סרח ᴵ (= to spread out). For the possible relationship between שֶׁלַח ᴵ with שׁלח ᴵ (= to send), cp. L. missile (= missile), which derives from mittō, mittere (= to send).] Derivative: שֶׁלַח ⱽ.

Serach as the angelic archetype? What's her superpower?

In going back to the top, to the first page I linked...

It discussed the dubious connection to the peculiar verb sarah with a hei (not a chet), its Biblical context being Jacob's power with God. Highly irregular, but maybe not suspect after all, considering that Serach herself is the go-to "search" lady with the exceedingly long lifespan:

שָׂרָה verb persist, exert oneself, persevere

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition
שָׂרָה

(1) to place in a row, to set in order; Arab. سار Med. Waw, reihen, ordnen. Hence שׂוֹרָה series, order, row; which see.

(2) to be leader, commander, prince, i.q. שׂוּר No. I. 2, and שָׂרַר; from setting in order, arranging soldiers. Arab. سَرُوَ to be noble, liberal; سَِرىُّ a prince, a noble.

(3) to fight (prop. to wage war) with any one; followed by עִם Genesis 32:29 followed by אֵת Hosea 12:4 (Arab. شرا Conj. III. id.). Fut. is taken from שׂוּר No. I.

Derivatives, שׂוֹרָה, מִשְׂרָה and pr. names שָׂרַי, שְׂרָיָה, יִשְׂרָאֵל.

The traditions of Serah's extreme longevity apparently have their basis in the fact that she is mentioned both in the count of those who went to Egypt and in the list of those who entered Erez Israel. Her singular name may also have contributed to these traditions, since the meaning of the expression (Ex. 26:12): "serah ha-odef" is "something left over" ("the overlapping excess").

This evolved into the tradition that Serah lived for hundreds of years, was in the presence of both Joseph and Moses and was even one of those who entered the land of Canaan. In the development of this tradition her lifetime extended to the period of King David and the later traditions claimed that she never died at all but entered the Garden of Eden while still alive. In the late midrash, Jacob is the one who blessed Serah that she would live forever, telling her: "My daughter, because you revived my spirit, death shall never rule you" (Sefer ha-Yashar, Vayigash, chap. 14).

https://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/serah-daughter-of-asher-midrash-and-aggadah

Suppose Serach is alive today, as per the traditions, with all that she's seen and knows. What might she be singing with her harp these days -- gently, so that nobody strokes out? A lot of that going around these days.

Moshiach is alive
And living in galut
He honors his Pa and Ma
Ya'akov and Rut.
