Takahashi has been working on this research at Kyoto University since around 2005, and found that in mice, there was a particular gene that affected the growth of their teeth.

The antibody for this gene, USAG-1, can help stimulate tooth growth if it is suppressed — something that Takahashi further explored in a 2021 study published in Science Advances.

Scientists have since worked to develop a “neutralizing antibody medicine” that is able to block USAG-1. When tested in mice and ferrets, researchers found that the animals were able to grow new teeth.

I wonder did they have to remove or break teeth of the animals in the study?

We hear of what seems like helpful outcomes from studies but I wonder how did they get animals in the state of needing the “help”?

One of the side effects is that you grow additional fingers, toes and ears as well. :-P

I always thought God should have given us three sets. Our last set at 50 years old. Some of the things God did were a bit odd. That’s one of the questions I’m asking him about.

I knew a guy in the Army. His nickname was piranha because he had 2 sets of teeth, top and bottom, one set in front of the other. Freaky.

The new set of teeth will probably rot out like my first. Hard pass.

I have an Uncle who had three sets of teeth. His baby teeth were perfect and his first set of adult teeth were just awful and quickly rotted away. His second set of adult teeth were perfect and stayed that way his entire life.

You could end up with one growing out of your forehead or some other inconvenient place.

Sounds like it will not work for “rebuilding” type of growth of existing teeth damaged by tooth decay, or for regrowing adult teeth that still have a root/base but have broken or fallen off above the root/base.
