Until thieves steal the cables for copper...................
βWith a store or club located within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans...

When I lived in San Antonio, I had 4-5 Walmarts within 10 miles.
Now I’ve moved to the Hill Country. The nearest Walmart is 40 miles away.
Oh well. Amazon delivers.
The idea that we can switch out our transportation energy from petroleum to electricity overnight (a decade or two) is insanity. Where are the nuclear plants? Where are the transmission and distribution system upgrades? This stuff gets built over many, many years.
This is rah rah marketing, nothing more. It solves no real problems people were clamoring to have solved.
It’s a good move, in just wonder about the capacity and wait time.
Oh Great. It is always so hard to find a place to park at Walmart except far off in the corners. But there are always 20 empty handicap spots. They probably have some spots for people who order online. Now they will tie up a bunch of spots with these chargers that no one will use. There won’t be any place for normal customers to park. I wonder if I could get away with parking my ICE car in one of those spots. Maybe I could put a fake charging plug on it.
No biggie to me. I don’t own and will not own an EV.
It’s a smart move, to (try to) attract more upscale shoppers.
I’ll make the wild guess right now that they’ll spend more time shopping at Sam’s and more time charging at Walmart if just on a trip.
This is a great move on their part. This is a huge, untapped market for WalMart... as, generally, the people that can afford to buy an electric car can afford not to shop at WalMart.
One local Walmart tore up the parking lot and put in EV chargers. No one used them. They tore them out about 3 years later.
Sure. When county or state governments decide to force the conversion issue by not renewing or issuing new gas station permits, these boys will be right there to offer a plausible excuse that an alternative source of fuel is available.
Not at all. This is just another step by Walmart to promote a another dependency on China. To hell with Walmart and ever large woke business in America.
So it’ll be handicapped closest to the door, then EV charging spots which can only be used by EV cars, and then everyone else.....
I live in Palm Desert and there are a PLETHORA of charging stations EVERYWHERE!! The population in the desert area doesnβt require the amount of charging stations out here, I recently moved here from the beach are EXTREMELY populated AND traffic everywhere YET never saw a charging station ANYWHERE!!!
Looks like they are going to bring a lot of βcaptive shoppersβ into their stores who are waiting for their cars to charge. Probably expand the dining area with a wi-fi connection.
A smart move.
Maybe so, until the vandalism commences.
Are they going to build the infrastructure to supply the needed electricity? Preferably nuclear.
If they don’t this is a big nothing burger. There user base doesn’t drive EVs.
“...they got it right this time.”
Nope, they didn’t. We are one of the top 3 petroleum export countries in the world even though we are hamstrung by an administration paying back the ecologist with the shutting down of drilling and and pipelines getting even close to the maximum output we are capable of. We are up to our eyeballs in oil and gas and can’t move it or use it. And before this administration came in, we were the largest exporter of petroleum products in the world.
Yet we are struggling with our current personal usage problems with electricity and are still enduring blackouts, brownouts, and having to buy power which raises the price of it from other locations with no real plan that is feasible in sight.
About the only thing these, and other, stores did was capitalize on the government’s more than questionable agenda to appease the ecologists for their campaign donations while the taxpayer pays the bill in the name of pollution. However, what they are concerned about is carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons. CO2 is an essential nutrient for land-based plants, NO is produced in the paranasal sinuses and is excreted continuously into the nasal airways of humans, and hydrocarbons are the main energy source of the world. We can go as ecology as we want but the rest of the world will not be able to make the change and won’t even try.
So what good is it? It is money in the governments hand, control, and an opportunity for the movement change they have been trying to accomplish at the expense of the taxpayer. You can equate it to taxes right before our revolution in the 1700’s.

No fixing stupid.
How long does it take to a car charge? Do you want to hang out at Walmart for a few hours?
Funny as hell that they are jumping on board as all the problems with e-cars are surfacing. Worse environmental footprint than gasoline vehicles, milage/per charge massively decreased with a load, fires.
Such a dumb idea, almost as dumb as HOV lanes for parents with kids, anyone with two jobs or job & school. Bureaucrats deposit their brains at the door.
