Explanation: This deep field mosaicked image presents a stunning view of galaxy cluster Abell 2744 recorded by the James Webb Space Telescope's NIRCam. Also dubbed Pandora's Cluster, Abell 2744 itself appears to be a ponderous merger of three different massive galaxy clusters. It lies some 3.5 billion light-years away, toward the constellation Sculptor. Dominated by dark matter, the mega-cluster warps and distorts the fabric of spacetime, gravitationally lensing even more distant objects. Redder than the Pandora cluster galaxies many of the lensed sources are very distant galaxies in the early Universe, their lensed images stretched and distorted into arcs. Of course distinctive diffraction spikes mark foreground Milky Way stars. At the Pandora Cluster's estimated distance this cosmic box spans about 6 million light-years. But don't panic. You can explore the tantalizing region in a 2 minute video tour.

And we’re conceited enough to believe we’re the only ones?

I just wanted to say thank you for the pings for these. Not every picture is of interest, but I appreciate them all anyway.

If you probe in your nose you may find some.

This one blows my mind. The Webb Telescope is really showing us what it can do. NO CONTEST between Webb and the Hubble telescope.
The video points out some really interesting features in the photo.
Just freaking amazing.

Sometimes the scientific establishment is as hidebound as the Church.

Considering that picture is just a small window on the universe; just look at all those galaxies out there and we’re the only ones? Our galaxy is like the head of a pin in an area the size of a football field.

If the sun were the size of a pea on the goal line Pluto would be 80 yards away. The nearest star, Proxima Centauri, would be 125 miles away. The vast size of the observable universe is beyond comprehension. And all we say may be like that head of a pin on that football field. And we are it? What incredible arrogance.
