NATIONAL CHEESESTEAK DAY
National Cheesesteak Day on March 24th not only celebrates a fantastic sandwich but it recognizes one of this nation’s greater debates; Who created this deliciousness?
#NationalCheesesteakDay
It’s like March Madness for a cheesesteak. Pat’s and Geno’s square off at 10 AM followed by Chubby’s and Dalessandro’s at 11 AM. Then Jim’s and Tony Luke’s at Noon. Basketball fans know how brackets go. Someone is gonna get a by.
However, the credit is given to a hot dog vendor from the 1930s, Pat Olivieri. According to Philadelphia’s tourism site, Pat’s King of Steaks sits on its original location and is still going strong. This writer has had a cheesesteak from there and would go back in a heartbeat.
The important thing is this fabulous, juicy sandwich on a hoagie roll. The roll is filled with chipped steak, and you can order it with or without cheese and onions. If you’ve never had one, you can really only get an authentic one in Philly. Other places try, so go where you can. But someday, go to Philadephia. It is the real deal.
HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL CHEESESTEAK DAY

Philly Cheesesteak Day Ping!..................
I prefer cheese cake
Great on a Friday in lent. These freaks do this on purpose.

I always thought it was provolone. WTH is Cheez Whiz anyway? Haven’t the sandwiches been around long before that stuff was invented?
March 24 is not on Friday every year.......................
Oh. Ok. Not everything is a conspiracy. I guess I just want one and can’t. Lol.
This year it sure seems like they are putting meat for many Fridays during Lent.
Loooove cheesesteaks! We used to call em “steak grinders” in ne. Probably one of my top 10 meals. Gotta have great tasting mushrooms on them too, loaded with black pepper.
The roll is to me 1/2 the experience- gotta be a good Italian roll- slightly chewy, but never airy and flimsy like you get on submarine sandwhiches-
Some like an au jues (sp?)- I personally don’t care for dipping the sandwich.
Drooling right now lol.
There are no REAL cheesesteaks outside of Philadelphia...
Just wannabes.....
Cheese wiz is “cheese in a spray can” basically- we used to put it on roasted marshmallows- supris8ngly good combo if youve had a vew too many lol- but on a sandwich? Nope! Not so much.
In 1968, there was a little “hole-in-the-wall” Cheesesteak shop on Chestnut St near 10th or 11th St that was the absolute BEST Cheesesteak in the city....
I remember someone putting that on a cracker for a snack growing up. It was kinda gross but I ate it anyway.
I realize that this is the stuff that they put on nachos at sporting events, and sometimes even on pretzels. I guess I’m not a fan.
I do eat American cheese sometimes melted on an English muffin with a fried egg and ham or bacon. Cheddar slices are better, but the American cheese works in a pinch.
This may be true, but is it a good enough reason to go to Filthy-delphia? Especially these days.
