Dick Van Dyke has smashed his car into a gate in Malibu after his Lexus skidded in the rain. The accident occurred on Wednesday morning in Malibu and police officers arrived at the scene to find Dick behind the wheel of his Lexus LS 500, reports TMZ.
The Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star told the cops his car had skidded in the rain and he lost control of the steering before the Lexus smashed into the gate.
The crash came nearly ten years after Dick was involved in another car crash which saw him rescued from his burning Jaguar in Los Angeles.

Mom lived by herself on the rural family farm until she was 90. Then my brother’s family moved in to help. She’s 99, and still resents having to share her space.
Staying independent keeps them alive. I can understand that. Since I’m 16 years younger than my husband and don’t have cognitive issues, he has someone. I ride with him sometimes to see how he’s driving.
I thought the LS 500 was no longer built. Turns out not to be true and if Dick has one of the latest 2018 to 2023 versions, it has a dual turbo 416 horse motor. Put you foot in that on a wet road, without proper steering input, and you too might be crashing, age notwithstanding.
Well, he voted and he is a Lefty, that means he is dead, then!
(at least brain-dead, if not entirely!)
Sigh. I hear he is a nice man. Why does he have to support people who are poison to a functional society?
“He’s a socialist and a 2 time Bernie supporter.”
It’s not just senility, Van Dyke is a Hollywood commie from way back.
Perhaps he spent too much time working with ultra-pinko Carl Reiner.
“My dad has been driving less and my stepmom is slowly taking over. He is 76 turning 77.
I think they shouldn’t live by themselves, but they want to be independent.”
I am 76 and live with my wife. My lawnmower is not set propelled. My car is has a manual 6-speed and 750 hp.
Just back from 30 days in SE Asia.
I am slowing down.
Makes about as much sense as standing outside a casino and giving money to people who just threw it away on the slots.
He’s a chitty driver........................
My grandfather remarried at 85, and ran over his “new” wife at 89. (When I tell people this, their first response is that their eyes bug out and they have to suppress a laugh-I think perhaps it is because of how I tell it to them with the “...ran over his new wife...” but that is how it happened.
No joke-he had that exact thing, diabetic, couldn’t feel his feet, and they pulled up in front of the house. My dad got out and was helping his stepmother into the house while my grandfather parked the car, and he pressed on the brake, but the car kept going, so he thought he wasn’t pressing down hard enough, so he pressed it more, and the car shot up over the lawn, he lost control, and it ended up pinning his wife against the house (she was, I think, 75 at the time) I recall it was some kind of huge electric blue Chrysler or Buick.
Her leg was crushed and had to be amputated, and my grandfather was devastated. He never drove a car again. She spent the last years of her life in a wheelchair, and was quite bitter about it, and reminded him often of what he had done to her.
It was sad. He was a very nice man, a quiet guy in his old age, and just sat there and took it.
We need honesty like this in the Senate - you are still a little young for that job, but I think you would be an asset. :)
bkmk . . . I think
George Soros will outlive them all!
I'm sure he can hire a driver, but giving up driving, i.e. admitting you can't do it anymore, is a milestone very difficult for many oldsters. It was for my dad.
Maybe things will get better with the light.
Living in the hills here, there aren’t a lot of route choices. LOL
My dad was in his early 90s when I started trying to get him to stop driving after an accident. Very uncomfortable conversations. It got so bad he would hide his car AND his keys when I came to visit. When he started having blackouts I went so far as to notify the DMV and they revoked his license. Boy was he PISSED but he still kept driving. Finally got him into an assisted living facility (another HUGE battle) and he no longer “needed” to drive. At that point he let sell his car.
Ironically, Dick, Willie and Jimmy are in my dead pool.
He’s NOT dead.
You’ve told us Pence was dead and we only see a body double, so why not make a claim about Dick that’s also showing how crazy you are?
All the news outlets that are reporting his “car crash” are dead to me.
Well, there are some folks we are led to believe are dead, who are in fact alive.
LOL.
