Newsom under pressure to take executive action on reparations if California Legislature doesn't act

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is facing increased pressure to use his authority to unilaterally enact proposals that would dole out billions of dollars to Black residents in reparations as a way to make amends for slavery if the state legislature doesn't act.

The California Reparations Task Force, which was created by state legislation in 2020, is considering a proposal to give just under $360,000 per person to approximately 1.8 million Black Californians who had an ancestor enslaved in the U.S., putting the total cost of the program at about $640 billion.

**SNIP**

The committee was created amid the unrest following the 2020 murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. None of the panel's nine members are White.

The task force had initially proposed $220,000 per person for Black Californians last year but recently increased the figure by more than 60% to $360,000 as one of many ideas being mulled to give out reparations.

**SNIP**

At the more local level, some California cities - such as Oakland, Los Angeles, and most notably San Francisco - have been pushing their own reparations proposals.

On Tuesday, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors expressed "unanimous" support for a draft plan of more than 100 reparations recommendations for the city, including a proposal to dole out $5 million each to qualifying Black residents. The proposal of $5 million lump-sum payments would cost non-Black families in the city at least $600,000, according to Stanford University's Hoover Institution.

**SNIP**

The city board also expressed interest in other forms of reparations for San Francisco's roughly 50,000 Black residents, such as a guaranteed annual income of at least $97,000 for 250 years and a home in the area for just $1 a family.

Another idea under consideration is a "comprehensive debt forgiveness" program...

reparations have always been out there among the extreme fringe of the dem party.....UNTIL, the george floyd riots showed just how scared Whitey is now....you had white police chiefs, all across the country, actually laying on the ground, hands behind their backs, begging forgivness to 20 year old black militants...screaming for them to do so with bull horns...governors...mayors...senators..congressman...all kissing rioters asses. Black leaders saw that, that was the sign...we got em on the run now, we can actually get reparations. Whites are so petrified of blacks rioting....i saw it on this forum, people just terrified. Itll start in California..and youll see it sweep across the Cpuntry....unreal.

I was in Marin county (Two Rock) from 75-78 what a loverly place it ‘twas was indeed.

Went back a few times to over the years to do some work and it was changing for the worse every time I went back.

I still enjoy watching Dirty Harry movies, Colombo, Streets of San Francisco just to see the background and fashions that people were wearing when those shows were filmed. It really was nice.

As long as it's done with local and state money, then I have no issue with it. This is all being done through the proper and legal channels. This is what federalism is all about.

However California, you elected these clowns and now you must pay the price. Be prepared to have your standard of living decreased thanks to the higher taxes you will now pay and the fewer business (i.e. jobs) that will be around. My heart goes out to the one-third of Californians who are conservative and in no way support this insanity. This will cost you and your family tens of thousands in additional taxes over the years. If I lived there today, I would move tomorrow.

ummmm....why would every single last Black person in the United States not immediately move to California?

I would for the amounts they are talking about if I qualified.

I mean, if you want to just give me a huge amount of free money.......

So amazingly insane as to defy comment.
Even a Molotov cocktail of all 69 hallucinogens on sale in the Cal state Capitol building vending machine — couldn’t warp a sane mind into such delusional madness.

Any group goes on a rampage because this does not happen will cause what needs be done to end this problem once and for all. I’m frankly beyond tired of hearing it, seeing it, publicizing about it.

As my uncle used to say, if you have a problem, you get rid of the problem and then you have no problem.

Oh, curse this business about going through the legislature to get money appropriated. Jut liquidate the entire capital wealth of all the West Coast liberal billionaires, especially Silicon Valley, and distribute it to the willing recipients with all deliberate haste.

And just what is a “black” person, anyway? Will it be determined by DNA? Will a color measurement device be set up to determine the amount of pigmentation? Or is merely filling out a questionnaire sufficient proof?

No possibility of fraud, of course.

Yeah, they don’t have the money, but they will lobby the Biden regime to force taxpayers to pay for their stupidity.

All this talk of reparations is only going to do one thing...

make people angry on both sides of the issue for different reasons...

especially when they are talking about crazy amounts of money. And yes, those are crazy amounts.

My ancestors arrived here before the civil war. Arrived not as a freeman, but as an indentured plantar. Term was 7 years and few extra for stealing a few chickens for food. After his term was served he was given worthless land in the mountains.

Only 40% of indentured lived to complete their contract. He went on to monetarily support the continental army, both his sons served and survived. Family moved to Kentucky, fought in the Civil War to free the slaves and the rest is history.

Family never gained wealth and still to this day there is no generational wealth for this family from England. Do I have the ‘right’ to blame the indenturement of my ancestors for this failure to thrive in America?

Slaves were promised 40 acres and a mule vs. 1 acre of unfarmable land? Both promises worthless.

Gruesome needs to tell the San Fernasco hairy people with flowers in their armpits that “reparations” are their baby. They need to come up with the money to pay the Africans for the work they never did.

It’s hard to decide what’s most egregious about this situation. The human trafficking that goes on in California, the products shipped to their ports made by child and slave labor from around the world yet few people seem aware or concerned that slavery still exists.

They will create their own plantation and won't realize they have been enslaved once again. But then it will be too late.

Oh well, not my problem.
