Star Trek Discovery Is Cancelled And Fans Are Divided Star Trek Discovery is being cancelled after its fifth season, and the reaction from fans shows that its place in the franchise is uncertain. By Rhiannon Bevan Published 2 days ago After a six-year run, it's official: Paramount is pulling the plug on Star Trek Discovery. This isn't quite enough to make it the shortest-running mainline Trek series - that "honour" goes to Star Trek Enterprise - but it is a far more abrupt end than most. So unsurprisingly, fans are divided on both the show, and the decision to can it after just five seasons. While some are mourning the show, grateful that it kickstarted a new generation of Trek, others shed no tears at all, feeling that it was the worst of the bunch. Then we have others who are actually happy it's gone, celebrating the end of a show that seems to have struggled to find its place in the Star Trek series.

I mean yes they were good at their jobs, even brilliant at times but they were not the BEST OF ALL TIME. And they worked at it. And some times, despite their best efforts, failed miserably.
That is the way life is. And when you have characters who are effortlessly successful all the time and wonder aloud why everyone else is so dim... it makes you kind of hate their guts.
I was willing to put up with the gays because it was a good story. But when the gender confused person was introduced, I was done with it.
I never liked Picard as a character so I never bothered with it. He just grated for some reason and is probably why I never liked TNG.
I just wish it had been able to finish its arc the way the JMS intend. Linda and G’Kar were such great characters.
There were 5 seasons?? Wow. I didn’t know. We couldn’t get it here unless we had streaming. Saw a couple episodes at the beginning because Dish was trying to get people hooked but it didn’t work.
I hadn’t thought of it that way, but you’re right.
TOS was made 56 years ago, and it looks fresher than any other Series. A timeless Space Western.
What, then?
The writers refused to add gratuitous homo scenes to satisfy the perverts at paramount so they shut the whole thing down?
TNG has aged terribly. TOS is still as fresh as when it came out.
The suits got involved.
Same problem with Crusade. That could have been an equivalent to Trek.
JMS autobiography is really good and goes into great detail about life, producing, writing and the rest.
I made it about 10 minutes into the first episode and quit. It was too woke for me.
Try Strange New Worlds and Picard season 3..they are STAR TREK.
First two seasons were almost good. Then it went down the woke sewer and became unwatchable.
Absolute woke crap!
There is only ONE Star Trek, TOS!
I disagree entirely. Magic "spore drive" and "War with the KlingonsORCS" was in no way a compelling story for me. It was a slog to sit thru all those episodes.
The Harry Mudd time loop episode was the ONLY one I watched from season 1 that was mildly entertaining, and even THAT episode had severe problems (like the Discovery crew having a Rave party aboard the ship).
I didn't make it to the Mirror Universe stuff (but I can tell Kurtzman screwed up that too, and couldn't even keep his OWN canon straight, at first hinting that people from the Mirror Universe were sensitive to normal lighting, then retconning that), nor did I make it to bearded hipster Spock in season 2 (again, having read "spoilers" about that, I'm GLAD I missed it!)
This crap won't age well (ironic since they justified all their crappy changes by claiming that 90s era Star Trek "wouldn't work for TODAY'S audiences")
It quickly became unwatchable due to the woke choke as another FReeper put it.
I saw a recent interview with Stewart. He sounded the same as ever, so I’d happily view more ST from him.
Back in the day, I could never miss a TNG episode. The others were good, but never competed for my time. I liked Janeway and Sisko, but STD came to the scene after I stored my TV in the attic. ‘Sounds like something to skip!
I’m a trekie from way back, and I never seen this program..
Ugly butch Uhura, "only real life blind people can play blind people" virtue signaling, real-life Tranny "playing" a "Non-Binary" character, Spock is a horndog for T'Pol, meh, I'll pass. If that's "non-woke", I'd HATE to see what "woke" looks like!
>> and Picard season 3... <<
Apparently in the very first scene, Beverly Crusher whips out a phaser rifle and has a Duke Nukem style "action scene" where she violently blows anyway a bunch of baddies. I could buy Worf doing that, but not Beverly. I've also heard Seven of Nine is now a lesbian and the show is full of dark, dreary, grimdark dystopian lighting. I'll pass. On the plus side, they managed to accurately recreate Michael Westmore's design for Worf and they got Rick Berman era Ferangi's accurate, so at least they're managing to make Kurtzman Trek LOOK like real Star Trek from time to time. It's a start.
