In eastern Oregon, they move just a little closer to joining Greater Idaho

Eastern Oregon is pretty much just a colony of imperial Portland in that state, where the tyranny of the majority there makes live a living hell for the lumberjacks, farmers, fishermen, truckers, and other rural constituents outside that part of the state.

I can't imagine being a farmer there growing potatoes, cherries, wheat, hay, or running a greenhouse nursery, and having to put up with antifa, potheads, crime, and wokesterism such as that seen coming from the Portland nexus. The taxes must be hell over there. The greenie regulations must be California cubed and like California, lead to a lot of brown wasteland. Meanwhile, the wokesters live to extract, from the east and south, in sharp contrast to their claims to being all in for conservation and sustainability.

If it's doable I'm all in. Think of the prairie fire jump started by conservatives. Rekindle Northern California's movement to become the state of Jefferson. Then there's the DC control over too much of the west, a problem Western Canada has with Ottawa. Run on it in '24 and turn Oregon red? Unlikely but our folks will definitely show up.

A potential prairie

The issue is self determination. Get the wheels rollin and everyone will want in. We never instigate anything because that’s the notion of what conservatism is all about. Anyone remember Howard Jarvis? Just illustrate the lower taxes one would pay in eastern Oregon if it became part of Greater Idaho.

We either need to cut some areas loose (start with where I live: New England) and end up with fewer than 50 states — or else we need to dice things up and have a lot more than 50 states: much of CA is Conservative. Greater Idaho sounds good. Texas could be three states at least. Heck, if you gerrymander New York state carefully you could probably create a new Conservative state there. Carefully carved up, Conservatives could wield a lot more power.

50 doesn’t work. I could see maybe 40 states. Or maybe 70 states. But the 50 we have right now has failed.

Why on earth should Idahoans want to absorb them?

That would be great if they were able to pull it off, but I;m betting the powers that be will find some reason not to allow it to happen.

Both STATE legislatures would have to approve Then the US congress. Democrats control Oregon. That’s why it should be brought up in ‘24. Methinks Howard Jarvis-like tax initiative would set it off.

Idaho gets another electoral vote in our favor.

Eastern Oregon is very similar to Idaho. Similar population density. Similar incomes. Similar political makeup. I think they would fit well and carry their share of the state taxes and support. I suspect they would welcome a lower tax burden than inflicted by the current state of Oregon.

I've always been partial to the pre-WW2 ideal of the State of Jefferson.

Would include southwest OR and northern CA.
The State of Jefferson movement was making good progress
until the beginning of World War 2.
That progress was never resumed after the war.

This is going to start looking like the conference re-alignments in college football.

Article 4, Clause 1: Admission of new states

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

There is nothing in there about a part of one state breaking off a joining another. So there is nothing about needing US Congress approval or State legislatures from Oregon approving.

I believe Idaho already approved welcoming them.

But whatever, just do it already. Stop talking about and just do it. Make Biden try and stop you.

Well, if Idaho already approved, what are the odds that Oregon would? Let alone that governor of theirs?

“There is nothing in there about a part of one state breaking off a joining another.”

Arguably, the proposal falls under this provision: “nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States . . .”

The proposed new, expanded state of Idaho is not the same as the old, smaller state of Idaho. It would be different.

Otherwise, Article 4, Clause 1 is meaningless: States can do whatever they want as long as they invent and advocate some pretext.

Of course, we read about such everyday: “John Strongman Doe was transferred to a women’s prison today after announcing he had decided it was in his own best self-interest to say to authorities that magic happened and he was now a female.”

The commies in Salem OR will fight this down to their last breath. It means loss of millions in tax revenue and flipping of 1 or 2 D seats in Congress to Red. Even if Greater Idaho gets this past the commies in Salem this has to get through the commies in WDC. That is a long, long list of fascist’s votes that will need to be overcome. Then there is the Supremes to consider because the leftys will burn up the legal system with counter actions.

But it is a pleasant thing to think about.

Not related to that but...sort of.

Nothing in the US Constitution about kicking out states from the Union is there?

Not that I remember..

If greater Idaho absorbs Jefferson, Idaho would be on the West Coast! All for it.

“There is nothing in there about a part of one state breaking off a joining another.”

What?!!!

It does state this: nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

I don’t see it getting past the Oregon legislature but it’s sort of fun to contemplate. “Today the potato fields, tomorrow the WORLD!!”

I think they need permission of both state legislatures & Congress. I only see the Idaho legislature agreeing to it.
