A frightened neighbor who witnessed the horror made the distressing 911 call

....

New video shows the terrifying moment an alligator lunged at a woman walking her dog by a lake in her Florida community, dragging her to her death.

...

Gloria Serge, 85, died after she was mauled to death by the 10-foot gator when she tried to rescue her beloved dog, Trooper, from the reptile's clutches ..

...

She can be seen walking along the lake with her dog when the alligator surfaces and then lurches at the pair.

Serge tried to get the dog away from the alligator's jaws but the gator grabbed her instead and could be seen dragging her into the lake.

...

'There's a woman in the lake. The alligator's got her!'

As the call unfolded, the neighbor became more distressed when she didn't see the woman surface.

'I think she's gone, oh my God,' Thomas cries into the phone.

...

the gator was a neighborhood fixture they called Henry. He was captured and euthanized after the mauling.

Florida authorities are warning residents about walking their pets near the ponds in lakes in the area.

Serge is the third victim to be killed by an alligator in Florida since last July.

...

Another elderly woman was killed by two alligators after falling into a pond near her home at the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club in Englewood in July 2022.

...

In May 2022, 47-year-old Sean Thomas McGuinness' body was found missing three limbs at the lake at the John S Taylor Park in Largo, Florida.

There’s way too many gators now in Florida. I applaud their efforts to bring the species, but the pendulum has swung too far. Especially with all the new people living there.

Time to cull the population. Open up the hunting season to everyone and relax size restrictions.

Give the reptiles a reason to fear people again.

Similar incident happened here back in the 80’s.

Lady walking her dog and a gator pops up out of the water and grabs the pooch and disappears back under the water in seconds.................

Some people foolishly give alligators food. Then the alligator loses its fear of humans and associates any person going by with “food.” It looks like this alligator became a community “pet” of sorts and it led to a tragedy.

What a dumbass. There’s the water with an alligator so well known that he has a name - Henry - and the idiot walks her little dog right by the water. I am glad Trooper survived, and I am sorry that they murdered Henry for simply doing what alligators do. Some zoo should have taken him, and exhibited him as the Murder Gator or something. They would have made a lot of money selling treats to throw him and stuff.

Prayers up for Henry, the Alligator.

**Give the reptiles a reason to fear people again.**

I guess I’ve never heard gators fearing anything. But I think I’ve seen a video of crocks showing respect to hippos.

Wow. Poor woman thought she would retire comfortably in florida, invite the grandkids to visit, walk her dog around the neighborhood - and BAM.

I’ll bet there’s more mealy brained people at the community that think the same way you do. That’s why “henry was allowed to remain until he killed a human being.

People like that make me want to puke. You put the life of a stupid dog and an alligator above a person.

Daily Mail are "interactive whores" - they pack their site with high memory-demand video ads, sidebars, pop-ups, photos, commentary, etc...

Its a memory sink for my computer... which does need a memory upgrade.....

10 footers are formidable. I think the rationale for protecting them is that the yokels can’t, or won’t, distinguish between ‘gators and crocodiles.

I do not think the dog was stupid. I think it was his owner who was stupid, trolling Poor Trooper by the water, and tempting Henry, the alligator. I do not see why they had to murder Henry. There are places that he could have gone, where he could have more than earned his board and keep.
