Bias and stereotypes lead to college-educated Black women facing greater challenges in the dating market.
Black women are among the highest educated female demographic in America.
Students and experts told Insider that predominantly white college campuses don't create a fair playing field for Black women when dating.
A viral TikTok of white, female college graduates showcasing their engagement rings while waiting to receive their degrees sparked a conversation online about the pressure on young women at southern colleges and universities to get engaged before graduation.
The phenomenon has many names, but is perhaps most commonly trademarked as "ring by spring" or obtaining an "MRS degree." While the terms can have a negative connotation — implying that a young woman's main intention in attending college is to find a partner – it sheds light on the very real experience of young, white women finding their life partners on campus.
It isn't comparable to the experience of college-educated Black women who are 53% less likely to marry a well-educated man (with at least some post-secondary education) than their white counterparts.
"For Black women attending college, we're really striving to level the playing field or become economically stable. Our goal is to secure a career, and in turn, secure our families," said Anjerrika Bean, the assistant director of Howard University's Center for Women, Gender and Global Leadership. "Securing a spouse isn't the ultimate agenda for us. That doesn't mean we aren't interested in it, but it isn't the reason we are choosing to further our education at said institution."

Degrees in what?
Exactly what I was going to ask. Generally there is a large overlap between gender studies degree holders and people who don't know what gender they are. Most people prefer to date non-mentally ill people.
Just a minor quibble, but I’m pretty sure trans and non-binary folks have toppled gays and lesbians from the top of the victimhood pyramid. My state (Commiefornia) passed a law to make it illegal to “misgender” a trans person. Because apparently “he” or “she” is a worse thing to call someone than the n-word for blacks, which has never been an illegal word in California.
The answer is not politically correct.
Same reason college white women aren’t meeting their match. 60% of college students are female. Say 7% of male students are gay. That’s not a very large pool. And college women feel it beneath them to marry down with a plumber, bartender, or truck driver.
"Educated" in what field? What subject do most of them major in? Anything serious?

I wasn't aware that colleges had an obligation to create a dating environment for anyone. I thought colleges' sole obligation was to educate.

The question answers itself. You aren’t educated. You are an indoctrinated communist American hating man hating angry radical that has an absolutely useless degree and you are completely useless to a functioning family and society.
Educated high value men don’t give a damn about your education. They want a woman who is kind, feminine, attractive, friendly, and above all, appreciative. I have NEVER heard any man say, “you know, I really want to meet a woman who can lecture me about trans African biqueer patriarchy oppression.”
I have educated black girlfriends & the available men in a small town that are on their level are very, very, very few. Just too many losers sadly.
I have known several very high quality black women—beautiful, loving, kind—had no trouble finding and keeping a husband.
But—what percentage of black women are we talking about that meet that description these days?
5%.
Maybe.
It’s culture.
Are you sure you want to commit to your spouse’s culture?
My daughter chose her university in part on the proportion of eligible Jewish men.
It worked.
You are correct; close relative teaches PHD students at the University of Alabama. She said her fourth grade son could read and write better than the PHD candidates...sad
How many educated well off bachelors are “educated” woman with a gender studies degree going to meet in the HR department of a tech firm?
Would they be the highest educated demographic if degrees in gender studies, African-American studies, LGBT s studies were disregarded? And if that is true, the result of majoring in those areas may explain the dating gap. And it would certainly be understandable.
They don’t even have to be college grads to be enraged and surly. I’ve seen enough of the surly mamas to know that it’s just not desirable. And combine it with the cursing, pidgin ghetto-English, and either obesity or them having as much muscle as I do, just yuck.
So what happens to our civilization? The Russians are solving that by invading Ukraine. So we have a bunch of men who can't get married? Not good for our society.
Hard not to be racis here but my view is black guys go for white women (beauty/fugly is not an issue) and pass over their black gals no matter how good looking they may be.
Just 50 years of observation.
I think the ditty goes like this:
White men marry Asian women.
White women marry black men.
Black women marry white women.
Nobody loves Asian men.
Part of it is status. If you can get a white woman as a black man, "you've man it". If you're stuck with a black woman, you're staying in the hood. That's my take.
*”you’ve made it”
I forgot about that.
