Want to Avoid the ICU for COVID? Just Take This One Little Pill (Vitamin D)
PJ Media ^ | 2/3/2023 | Stephen Green

A new study published last month by the National Institutes for Health suggests “a protective role” for a tiny yellow pill that costs almost nothing.

Study is at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9864223/

Before we go on, understand that I’m one of those crazy million-supplements-a-day people. We’ll get to that in a second, but first, let’s look at the science behind vitamin D and COVID.

You can buy a year’s worth of vitamin D supplements for about $12 on Amazon. January’s NIH meta-analysis shows that taking it “results in a decreased risk of death and ICU admission.”

It would be fair to note that a lot of people (including Yours Truly and actual doctors and scientists) have touted the benefits of vitamin D for a long time. But this is the first time I’m aware of that the NIH has published a study of this size regarding COVID and vitamin D’s “beneficial effect in preventing acute respiratory infections and reducing their complications.”

“Regarding ICU admission,” the study continues, “Figure 2 shows a strong association between vitamin D interventions and protective effect on ICU admission.”

In addition, “Figure 3 shows a significant protective effect of vitamin D administration on mortality.”

It isn’t just COVID, either. “Various studies conducted before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic showed that patients who received vitamin D supplements had a lower risk of acute respiratory infections and a shorter duration of symptoms.”

The study also shows that the benefits of taking Vitamin D accrue most for those who are vitamin D-deficient, which almost goes without saying. And yet, a 2022 NIH report concluded that “35% of adults in the United States are vitamin D deficient.”

Vitamin D and intermittent fasting prevents and cures everything!

Just stop eating except for mega doses of Vitamin D and you could live as long as Methuselah.

I read it on Freerepublic and the Internet so it must be true.

10-15 minutes of sunlight every day works too.
They say to wear a hat and sunscreen but wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

Yeah...better not go go nuts with the fat-soluble vitamins. (A,D, E, and K)

I would take 2X 5000 UI per day in the winter and 1X 5000UI in the summer because of getting enough Vitamin D from the sun.

I’m outside right now in a two piece and a hat. I never wear sunscreen.

Many of us here on FR understood this pretty early in the pandemic and we said it early and often.

While I also believe in the efficacy of IVM, HCQ, and zinc against Covid, this failure of public health to embrace vitamin D supplementation is in my opinion the most egregious error we made in an ocean of errors.

How many lives were lost because our health bureaucracy, with 60% plus funding by big pharma, was most concerned with protecting the EUA (and getting rid of Donald Trump)?

This single vitamin, which costs essentially nothing, is far safer and more efficacious than any vaccine.

What sunshine?

Actually, you need to get the early morning sun on your face and chest, which basically leaves out all of us who live in cold climates. I did it last summer, but now take Carlson’s Norwegian D-3 cod liver oil, pricey, but my very smart MD prescribes it, making it a deductible medical expense..

For what it's worth, my wife and I have been taking Dr Zelenko's recipe for over a year, no shots; we're both quite healthy. (I'm over 75.)

The skin makes vitamin d very efficiently. You make a lot exposing your arms.

People who are used to being in the sun can sunbathe for 10 minutes and make vitamin d that will last week or months.

which costs essentially nothing

In March 2020, I was doing shopping for our household and my two daughters. Costco happened to have D3 on sale. $6 or $7 for 600 pills of 2,000 IU. I got them each a bottle. They both eventually got COVID put recovered quickly. No jabs for anyone in their families.

You shouldn’t put them all in one group. Researchers experimented with extremely high doses of phylloquinone and didn’t find problems.

I bet phylloquinone is safer than vitamin c, which can cause kidney stones.

It’s very easy to consume excess retinol and have problems.
