I went ballistic when I first saw this.
The “NFL is rigged” conversation has been happening for years now, but with how things went down in the Jan. 29 AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals (specifically with the officiating), the talks have ratcheted up.
And now, former Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins running back Arian Foster is getting involved, throwing some fuel into the fire with one statement: “The league is scripted.”
Speaking on his “Macrodosing” podcast with PFT Commenter, Foster elaborated on an off-air comment alleging that NFL players receive a script.
“We were really dedicated to [the NFL’s script],” said Foster. “So, it was more, like, that’s what practice was about, practicing the script. This is what goes on. This is what we have to do … It’s like WWF, so we know what’s going to happen, but you still have to put on a show.”
This led to current Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey also claiming that “giving up 200 to Chase was just me following the script.”
When I first saw this clip — I won’t lie — I freaked out.
But when you look deeper into it and watch more of the podcast for context (which I did), it sounds like everything was just a big goof. And by the way, great marketing from these guys to use this clip to promote their show amid all of the ratcheted up “NFL is rigged” talk. PFT Commenter even brilliantly said, “can we clip just that part?”
And they did, hilariously without any context, and now it has everybody talking about their show. Just genius.

Like I said, genius marketing move and it’s hilarious.
But with all of that being said, I could totally believe the NFL is rigged, for the simple fact that my Miami Dolphins haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1974 — I can rock with that narrative.
And if it is scripted … NFL, can my Phins get at least ONE here in my time of being alive?

I remember in the 70s when Major League Baseball banished Willie Mays just for signing a contract to be a “goodwill ambassador” for the Bally’s Park Place hotel and casino in Atlantic City.

also there is a story about how two women tennis players were getting signals from the coaches to try to fix the match. I think each one was suppose to win a set during the australian open
Yeah...it was pretty obvious! I always thought it was just the refs being paid off though!
Stock prices,media and press news, pro sports, city budgets, elections, DOJ interest, all rigged.
Even the USSC at this point.
Now, I DO remember a different kind of fixing. The AWFUL New Orleans Saints, coached by Hank Stram were behind in the closing seconds, and Stram goes for the field goal, enough to cover, but not to win! At least he was probably betting on his own team.
If you are a professional big time gambler you will want as many people as possible on the take—no point taking unnecessary chances.
If you let the ball get to your pads, it is not likely you will catch it. Not sure what your hmmmmm is about.
The entire popularity of the NFL is based on gambling, they have always embraced it to some degree, now it’s just out in the open, with their support of sites like DraftKings and Fan Duel, plus putting a team in Las Vegas.
I don’t believe it’s scripted because if that ever truly came out, it would be the end of the NFL and billions of dollars of value would be lost, it’s a gamble the owners would be insane to take.
Do they have incompetent people as referees? Yes and they don’t discipline them which leads to the accusation of scripting.
The one thing about legalized gambling is that it keeps the game more honest IMO, with betting lines being public a major move in money would be easily detectable, making cheating easier to detect versus the mafia or some other group handling bets who might have a few players on the take.
I do too. Willie was my first sports hero. Never thought I’d say it, but it’s time to bring Pete Rose back and put him in the Hall of Fame.

In the computer age professional gamblers can easily disguise massive bets by breaking them into thousands of little pieces.
It was much harder and riskier in the pre-computer days.

I think the whole second half of the AFC Championship game was fixed by the Refs.
Yes, Cinny’s Offensive line was hurt. They could not stop the pass rush of KC. Therefore, they had to HOLD them on every play.
However, EVERY call in the second half went against the Bengals.
The BONEHEAD late hit/out of bounds was the only legitimate penalty in the second half.
I think the NFL wanted two BLACK QBs in the Superbowl.
I am not speaking about any other calls. I am speaking about the call that cinched the game. I do not believe that player was doing a scripted play to save the game for Mahomes.
The last flag should not have been thrown and the game should have went into overtime. He barely touched him as they flew by each other but you knew the ref could not resist the temptation.
No flags in the last minute.
