If you have enough money to pay for expensive lawyers, I guess there’s no defense that can be considered ridiculous. You take the chance that there’s enough stupid and gullible people on the jury to buy into your nonsense.

The perp and her father were apparently wasted also when they composed the statement of charges against the venue.

Kinda funny:
Back in the day my BFFs of 43 years (and still going strong!) and I would use the phrase, “I was over-served!” if we got a little out of hand or had a hang-over then next day. Whoever was the least hung-over dragged our sorry butts to Church come Sunday morning. ;)
Wish I had know back then that you could sue someone for my bad behavior!

Bars lose these type of lawsuits all the time and might also face criminal charges if there is any evidence they served a clearly intoxicated person. Usually these are not big enough cases to make the news.
If someone is stumbling, etc it is 100% illegal to serve them in most jurisdictions nomatter how much they beg. Just need a video of it and slam dunk case.
Some times the liability may fall on the bartender themselves if the bar proves they trained to avoid overserving and the bartender did not follow this procedure

The bar’s responsibility was to cut her off and tell her to leave. It’s her responsibility to get a cab, uber, public transportation, walk, or crawl home. Case dismissed. Plaintiff to pay defendant’s costs and attorneys’ fees.
