Researchers have found more evidence that dry fasting (fasting without food or liquid intake) from dawn to dusk for four weeks has an anti-atherosclerotic, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumorigenic effect on the proteins in a type of immune cell called a peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC).
"We know that disruptions of the circadian rhythm are associated with cancer and metabolic syndrome. This type of fasting can potentially act as a reset to normal for the circadian rhythm," said Dr. Ayse Leyla Mindikoglu. "After fasting, our participants lost weight, and their blood pressure and insulin resistance improved."
The researchers previously found similar results in blood serum. The current study used samples from the previous study examining 14 people with metabolic syndrome, a group of conditions including obesity, insulin resistance (elevated blood glucose levels), elevated blood pressure, high triglycerides (a type of blood fat) and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (good cholesterol). These conditions can lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. The participants were observing Ramadan, which consists of fasting for four consecutive weeks without eating or drinking from dawn to sunset. Outside of fasting, participants were allowed to eat whatever they preferred and were not required to follow any exercise regimen or weight loss measures.
Participants gave blood samples before the fasting period began, at the conclusion of fasting and one week after fasting was completed. They found that proteins associated with atherosclerosis, heart disease and cancer promotion were decreased, while proteins associated with cancer and inflammation suppression were increased. They found that apolipoprotein B, which is a more accurate risk predictor for developing atherosclerotic heart disease than low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, was significantly decreased at the end of four-week dawn-to-dusk dry fasting compared with its level before fasting, and its decrease persisted even one week after the fasting period.

I’ve seen this practice mentioned numerous times lately. Not sure about the “no liquid” piece of it. I tried something like this awhile back, but I drank a blend of pineapple, cucumber, ginger, turmeric and lemon juice throughout the day and that helped me reduce joint inflammation which helped with my arthritis pain.
Recent research indicates that in the mornings there is an increase in heart attacks due to dehydration. This fast would increase that risk unless you hydrated upon rising
Because some quack says it is scientific everyone believes it.
E.g. "I am science!" Fauci. (Science c'est Moi!)
And yet the skeptics here on FreeRepublic are constantly insulted and ridiculed for NOT automatically "believing the science." (Or the outright lies.)
While you did not bother to ask me my view on this, I suspect this study was done more to show Ramadan in a positive way instead of something that results (as stated by a poster above and without citation on this thread ) higher rates of kidney failure in Middle eastern populations. (So maybe.) Ramadan Fasting during the Day is generally followed by binging with sweets and desserts after sunset to compensate for the daily fast. Probably better to have a big before sunrise meal than after sundown. (You have already provided your view on the subject and your belief that the doctors that published this are "quacks.")
Usually, Baylor College of Medicine research is pretty tight. I have a family member who works there.
Some Muslims do drink water during the day during Ramadan. I know only one Muslim. He says he does not drink any daytime water. Says he loses weight during Ramadan.
To be clear. I am not being dismissive of Baylor My Daughter has a medical condition for which Baylor has done a lot of outstanding research. (Baylor Blue Bird Circle Rett Center)
