Russian subs are sitting just off our coastlines both west and east to unleash hell on military, major cities (Democrat voter strong holds) and port operations. I hope that if the Ukrainians do not win this war the Western elites step back from taking Russia on. We would be fighting a two or multiple front war almost immediately, with China beginning war efforts against Taiwan and North Korea striking southward. The Balkans could erupt, renewing the Yugoslav civil war of the 1990s. Iran and Israel could start fighting. Saudi Arabia, Israel's main ally in the Middle East, has been moving in a pro-Chinese direction. The United States has to deal with many enemies in Latin America: Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and maybe Brazil. The Mexican cartels, which effectively run that country with the help of Chinese imported fentanyl, could decide to side with their business partners. We will wish for the days of merely illegals and narcotics crossing the southern border.

There are saner people in the Western elite: Henry Kissinger, who is five months short of his 100th birthday, for one. But I don't know how much influence he has anymore. Biden is the last person you want to lead this country in war; ditto for Kamala Harris. The only one who could rally the conservative half of the country to fight the Chinese and Russians is Donald Trump, the enemy of the power elite who is despised by the liberal half of the country. Additionally, we are no longer the "arsenal of democracy" due to deindustrialization, and the quality of men available to fight has radically diminished from World War II, or even Vietnam. The same is true of Britain, France, and Germany, the last two of which are unlikely combatants if war breaks out.

I hope that there are saner heads in positions of power. Perhaps the Ukrainians will win and take back the territories the Russians conquered in 2014 and early 2022. But if they fail and the Russians take Odessa and the Black Sea coast to the Moldovan border, the West would be better off backing down.
