One look at this video, and you might think this Wyoming trooper made a wrong turn and ended up in Antarctica. That wasn’t the case, but one might disagree after Wednesday’s wild weather day in southeastern Wyoming.
A dangerous blizzard has begun its intensification into a soon-to-be bomb cyclone Thursday as it wallops the Midwest and Great Lakes, with damaging winds also eyeing the East Coast and contributing to a travel nightmare for millions ahead of the Christmas holiday weekend.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne said their record 1-hour temperature drop Wednesday saw a 51-degree plummet. The temperature went from 42 degrees to negative 9 degrees in two hours. Wind chills also crashed to 40 below zero locally in Cheyenne.

First snowfall and everyone forgets how to drive.
Happens every year...especially in the northeast.
There are going to be a lot of accidents today. Around here, it rained and now the temperature is rapidly dropping. There is going to be black ice on the roadways that some people are not expecting since the temps have dropped so quickly. The wind is wicked and loud! No more sleep for me tonight.
After any snow fall if the roads have been clear for two weeks.
A lot have forgotten all to drive.
I think the so-called bomb cyclone was kind of dud. We didn’t get a whole lot of snow in SE Wisconsin, but there’s plenty of wind to blow around what snow we did get. I think the biggest thing is the cold temperatures we’re getting behind it. -12 F here right now.
Larry, you should see folks driving in Philly when there is 1/2 inch Accumulation… You ain’t seen nothing yet lol.
It’s absolute sheer panic, and mind numbing stupidity at the first sign of snowflakes in Philadelphia every year.
think ahead....everyone who can....should be cozy at home...and forget about the last minute stuff. i’m in upstate ny hibernating.
Remember Polar something of a couple years gone by....
Here in Missouri people have no idea how to drive on snow and ice. Good day to stay home.
We might run out of food it it don’t melt by July 4th.
“Bomb cyclone”= A snowstorm with a press agent ... like “polar vortex”.
Dangerous fallout from man made global warming?
Wyoming being Wyoming.
Exceeded only by their voting habits?
“Wyoming being Wyoming.”
A cousin retired from the USAF in Cheyenne & claims the weather keeps out the riff-raff.
NO ONE can drive on ice. Period
I got caught in a Wyoming blizzard in 1985. I was heading to Vancouver, Washington and just past Cheyenne. About 5 miles west it was like someone threw a bucket of snow on my windshield. It was the longest 90 mile drive to Rawlings. Took 4 hours and multiple stops to clear my headlights and wipers off.
Fifty years ago this cold front would have been used as proof we were entering “THE COMING ICE AGE!” which was being promoted back then.
For sure. Unusual event last night here on the Central Oregon Coast, we had a nasty ice storm. First responders couldn't even get to the dozens of cars that had gone off the roads.
