'It wasn't me': Footage shows millionaire tech entrepreneur's final words after being fatally shot by a trigger-happy cop while defending his home from a suspected burglar

A horrifying video shows Austin tech entrepreneur Rajan 'Raj' Moonesinghe being shot dead by local police as he inspected the perimeter of his home for an intruder with a rifle in his hands.

Moonesinghe, 33, a successful tech entrepreneur who had moved to the area about five years ago, was killed on the front porch of his home in a wealthy South Austin neighborhood on November 15. As he lay dying, he said the words: 'It wasn't me.'

At around 12.30am, Moonesinghe told a neighbor that someone was in his house and he was going to call 911, the WSJ reported.

Police arrived on the scene just five minutes later, moments after Moonesinghe fired two shots into his own living room - and fired the four shots that killed the businessman.

Across the street from his home, a private security guard for his neighbor had already called the police to report what Moonesinghe was doing.

The guard said in a call to a dispatcher, 'He almost seems to be scared of something inside his house.'

'He's pointing the rifle at the interior of his home,' he said, before Moonesinghe called into his living room before firing shots inside.

This guy’s voice was a lot like a good Indian friend of mine, so it kind of bothers me. You would be amazed at the strong 2nd amendment support of a lot of Indian men.

Anyway, my guess is he was drunk based on how he sounds and my experience drinking with my friend.

Do you know any journalism students? They are semiliterate at best. As are the editors.

When the cops show up, you put your weapon down at put your hands in the air. The cops will see any armed person as a threat.

They’re gonna shoot your dog, and if you have a gun in your hand, they’ll shoot you too.

“when someone is firing shots in a dark yard with an AR, your response two seconds later”

Except the article clearly states that the shots were fired BEFORE the police arrived, not “two seconds later”. Nice try though.

I'm curious if a autopsy was performed, and any drugs in his system. His ethnicity is irrelevant; his background is from Cali, which might have affected his non ability to handle a firearm or have commonsense.

If you see a man shooting into a house you protect the people inside by shooting him.

What are the cops supposed to do when they come to a call and see someone not only holding, but firing a gun into the house they were called to? They don’t know who or what he is shooting at but under those conditions this person is a likely threat to someone’s life. I wouldn’t characterize that as a trigger-happy cop.

The shout to put the weapon down seems entirely perfunctory though as there was zero time between making the statement and shooting the guy, but the cops also don’t want him to have time to take a shot at them. Sad that he died, but if someone were standing outside my home shooting inward, I would expect police to shoot first and ask questions later.

The question I have is what was the guy shooting at? What made him so paranoid? The toxicology report might be interesting.

But if you or I cannot claim self defense if we shot someone on sight just because they were carrying a rifle, then the police cannot claim it either.

you would think so, but the same laws that apply to us don’t apply to cops. There used to be a website called “wack em and stack em” that listed people murdered by cops, but is spite of listing large numbers I only know of three instances where cops were actually successfully prosecuted for killing someone who was innocent. The Danziger bridge incident, the Atlanta cops found guilty of shooting Kathryn Johnson, and Amber Guyger who shot her neighbor. I don't count Derick Chauvin, because he was obviously politically railroaded to appease the BLM terrorists. I think he should have gotten a medal

I have no problem with criticizing the police. But this was just ignorant. Call in a 911 and then patrol outside with a rifle? Police are jumpier than ever.

If you watch the video, you can see as he fires into the house, a police car goes by in the background literally a second later, followed by another one as he shoots a second time, so they heard both shots themselves without even being told.

Check out the video-do you see the sequence the same way?

Well, given how things have been going the last 12 years or so, I think I agree with you there.

Ok, I can’t watch the video right now but I’ll take your word for it. Which means the police were still in their cars when the shots were fired, not approaching him, and if he only fired two shots, then he was not actively firing his weapon when the police approached.

I hear where you are coming from, but I know for a fact...they heard those two shots (one a single second before the first cop drove by who I am absolutely certain, given the timing, that they visually saw the guy fire the first shot into his house, and he fired the last one about three seconds before they shot him.

You can see the second cop car stop after the second shot, and within three seconds of the last shot, you see the cop car door open, a cop jumps out and fires shots. Apparently, he yelled at the guy to drop his weapon but fired simultaneously.

I think we all agree that cop made a mistake, but I suspect it wasn’t something to classify as an execution or murder, but a fog of battle with jacked up adrenaline.

That is kind of the way I see it. That was weird to watch, the “Do you want this?” comment, then the casual walk with the gun dangling in his right hand, as if he was going to check the mailbox.

Damn, if I thought someone was in the house, I wouldn’t have been where he was, and certainly not wandering aimlessly, looking at the street, etc.

If it were a real threat, and it is threatening enough to justify a weapon in your hand, you damn well should be in a low or high ready posture, not walking around like you have a mop in your hand.

I think it is tragic all around. He’s dead. The cops will be punished. Sad.

My CCW class said if cops were responding to a “Shots fired” call, and found me holding a gun, they’d probably shoot me. Particularly if I held a rifle.
