A Florida man was bitten in the arm by an alligator Thursday while washing his hands in a pond, according to the City of Sanibel.
Fortunately, the man was able to break free from the alligator and call 911. People on the scene of the attack applied a tourniquet until EMS workers arrived, officials said in a statement.
He sustained a serious injury on his right arm and was transported to the hospital for treatment, according to officials.
Florida Fish and Wildlife along with the Florida State trapper are actively attempting to capture the alligator at the pond.
There have been several alligator attacks nationwide this year that have killed or injured victims.

They need to eat but I need a new pair of boots! What say ye?
Seems they were killed off years ago.
Better than a cottonmouth bite.
Get a new pair of boots and have a gator BBQ cuz you need to eat too.
They’re territorial. I’ve see the same ‘gators in the same places many times.
Yeah, they’re a possibility in just about any body of water, but I never had a problem.
Lol!
That’s crazy.
Having grown up in Fla we knew not to wash our hands in a pond. Always assume there’s a gator.
i’m willing to bet alcohol was involved...
And gator feeding.
i’ve been drunk and i’ve been REAL drunk, but i’ve never, been that drunk...
Lol! I just told that story to my son. I got a plus one dad joke.
Happy Gilmore is the only Adam Sandler movie I like. Carl Weathers made that movie in my opinion.
Never had Gator BBQ... is it truly good, or does it taste like chicken... ?
I do have lizard boots with elephant skin... but not any caimans like I would like to get... some baby gators trapped perhaps at less than 5 ft, right? That’s what I would like, smaller pattern, a little softer and more supple...
last time I shopped a decent pair from Lucchese $900 ~ $1500 (handmade in Texas).
Ive never had Gator, we’ll have to let some other Freeper let us know how it tastes.
This is a lesson for “Florida man” (and women) that should be common knowledge at this point. Also, there is a country song that a southern band could record regarding a dog, no hands, and the alligator that got away, in there somewhere.
Florida needs to get more aggressive in reducing its alligator and snake population. It should be a free-for-all without limitation for hunters to kill these creatures. South Georgia should be the same since they are slowly adjusting to cooler climates and moving north.
To me, Gator tastes a bit like rattlesnake. It is good and I can see why there is a demand for the meat. Both are almost similar to a lobster type meat. (Just my opinion—others may differ).
Gator tastes okay but if I am going to spend that kid of money, I will eat steak.
