I just watched this on Amazon Prime. Thought it was very well done.

P.S. - I searched and did not find a thread on this.

It’s a movie about the Mars Rover Opportunity, that lasted 15 years - well past the original 90-day mission. Well-told story, including the people that were involved over the years.

Effects by Industrial Light & Magic, and cinema verite of the inner workings of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab

Watching it right now. Looks like transhumanist propaganda meant to soften us up for the singularity.

Attributing human intelligence and emotions to nonhuman entities is called anthropomorphism.

The beginning may make it seem that way. But I think it’s more about telling the story of the life’s work of many, who naturally become emotionally involved in the trials and tribulations.

Attributing human intelligence and emotions to nonhuman entities is called anthropomorphism.

…and people have been treating beloved machines like, well, people for millennia. Why else were ancient sailing ships referred to as “she”. It’s even common for people to give their cars names, like some pet.

Thanks, let me know what you think. I was pleasantly surprised to find it enjoyable, not the usual fare, but interesting for space buffs. Maybe even inspirational for young un’s with a scientific bent.

The two active Mars rovers are Curiosity and Perseverance. They are powered by radioisotope power system that generates electricity from the heat of plutonium’s radioactive decay. The previous rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, were solar powered. Mars has dust devil, small tornado-like funnels that actually cleared the solar panels, at times. The fact that Opportunity lasted so long is a tribute to everyone involved.

Curiosity has been there ten years, and is actually in the area it was originally intended to explore, mountains. Perseverance brought the amazing Ingenuity helicopter. We weren’t sure it would work at all. Like Opportunity, it has exceeded all expectations, and is still flying after a year. Amazing.

Chuck Berry named his guitar “Maybellene,”

I watched “Finch” a few months ago:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3420504/

There is absolutely no doubt the purpose of that movie is to condition the viewer to accept the replacement of human beings by robots.

It’s not even subtle.

I made my judgement on the first couple of minutes of “Good Night Oppy.” It’s valid for the first few minutes. I have continued to watch. It’s a decent movie. They haven’t brought up global warming yet, or had one man call another man his husband, so it’s going very well from that standpoint. 🤡

"Good Night, Oppy"
Oh dear. The phrase yanks on my heart. I had a cousin called "Oppy" with whom I was vary found, but she is now departed. Her name was really "Betty." She had had a Chinese nursemaid in the Philippines that called her "Ah-Bei," and the name stuck in the family for the rest of her life.

And then there are the various ‘Lucilles’:
