Coast to Coast AM is saddened to share the news that 'Beast of Bray Road' author and pioneering 'dog man' researcher, Linda Godfrey, has passed away. She famously entered the world of the paranormal when, while working as reporter for a small Wisconsin newspaper in 1991, she heard reports of a strange werewolf-like creature that had been spotted in the area. Although admittedly skeptical of the accounts, Godfrey documented them in a landmark article titled 'The Beast of Bray Road,' which sparked something of a sensation and led to her writing a series of stories as more witnesses came forward with their own tales of encountering the unnerving bipedal canine cryptid.
Godfrey's journalism background gave her the ability to look at the controversial subject matter in an open-minded yet factual manner and her coverage of the creature captured the imagination of the public in a profound way. Over time, this resulted in the 'dog man' carving out a niche in the cryptozooligical community that today nearly rivals that of Sasquatch with an abundance of books, articles, movies, and TV programs devoted to the mysterious 'monster.' Having put the 'beast' on the proverbial map with her initial article and subsequent research, Godfrey served as the preeminent expert on the oddity for thirty years and made a multitude of media appearances, including numerous times on Coast to Coast AM, detailing her investigations into the creature and other cryptids.
To that end, over the course of her prodigious career in the paranormal, Godfrey expanded her scope of research to include Bigfoot as well as other curious 'monsters' said to have been seen in the American Midwest and ultimately wrote a whopping 19 books on these topics. She was also a fixture at paranormal conferences, where she formed enduring friendships with her fellow researchers while also collecting new accounts from astounded witnesses. By way of her work documenting the 'dog man,' Godfrey left an indelible mark on the world of high strangeness and will be deeply missed by both her colleagues as well as all those who were riveted by her coverage of the creature that, in a testament to her influence, many simply know as the 'Beast of Bray Road.'
Most of her research and writings are far more believable than what’s going on in our government.
She’s been on many travel channel paranormal shows I watch. The wife ask me why I watch them... I said I live drama, no need to watch it.
Bray Rd is only a few miles from where I live. I think I saw this dog man one evening. Maybe it was just a shadow I say to myself, or even a bear.
I still listen to Art Bell. Great entertainment
She was a skeptic who turned into - I don’t want to say a believer - but she definitely thought something weird was going on.
Thin places...they have been in folklore for ages...where two worlds overlap. What if it is true? What if there are parallel universes and, whether accidentally or with intent, things/visitors/phenomena pass through?
It would explain much. Why so much of the fantastic seems to just vanish. There are hundreds of stories of tracking some creature or another and the footsteps just end. The thousands of reports of UAP that just seem to vanish while being observed.
Where science and folklore meet, there is no place to hide.
Where is Bray Road located? I’m in Northern Illinois.
Elkhorn. Go up Rte 12 to Elkhorn interchange and take the first exit that goes into the town, not the 2nd and 3rd that goes to I-43 (I think county NN?). Bray Rd is right there at the end of the off ramp.
No additional information, no opinion on the subject of Crypto Canide-men. (I did go to a good restaurant in Elkhorn this summer though! The Someplace Else Restaurant.)
This is poetry.
I know exactly where Elkhorn is, but you can only get there via transporter. ;)
I have never heard of this woman - and I’ve lived here all of my life.
My Dad would’ve known who she was - he stayed up all night listening to Art Bell. He loved this kind of stuff. ;)
Sad. I really liked her reporting.
“I still listen to Art Bell. Great entertainment”
Me too.
Moreover, quantum mechanics reveals that the fundamental substance of existence requires intelligent life and its expression as consciousness. This refutes any conception of the world as solely material in nature. As the great German physicist Max Planck offered, "I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness."
It seems inescapable that other forms of intelligent life exist and might sometimes find or make portals so as to pass back and forth to our world at will. This may be the best explanation for the Beast of Bray Road, Bigfoot, ETs, and similar paranormal entities.
Thanks, not too far from me, I’m just North of Rockford.
It’s even closer to Yerkes Observatory at Williams Bay.
I didn’t know Coast to Coast was still an ongoing thing. I used to listen to Art Bell religiously. He is a very underrated interviewer IMO.
I still listen occasionally, but I definitely preferred Art Bell over George Noory. Art passed away back in 2018; he was definitely unique.
Sad.
She was 71.
RIP.
I have two transporters, but I do not trust them on the highway! In our non voluntary traverse of various unfrequented WI county highways between Oshkosh and Elkhorn I only recall seeing farmers and cows and the occasional cow. (A lot of those!) I do remember seeing a German Shepard but he did not stand on his back legs or bark in German!
Sounds think she was more well known in Walworth county than Dane county. (Maybe she receded into the back ground in comparison to the new age up front strangeness in Madison! )
