Dave Rushworth had been enjoying a day out with pals when he suddenly dropped to the floor and became unresponsive

Dave Rushworth pictured with his partner Michelle A dad who died suddenly while walking in the Lake District with friends has been named as Dave Rushworth.

He had been enjoying a day out with pals when he suddenly fell ill on Saturday (November 12). He sadly died despite numerous attempts to save his life.

Mr Rushworth, from Lancaster, was on Whin Rigg at the time of the incident, with a rescue team being notified at 12.40pm. Crews were scrambled alongside an air ambulance.

Despite the best efforts of the team, and the walker's friends and passers-by, Dave died at the scene, Lancs Live reports.

Since his death, tributes have poured in for Dave. His friend has since set up a fundraiser to help cover the funeral costs.

The fundraiser, which has a goal of £7,000, was set up by Alexander Bethell. Posting a message on the GoFundMe, he said: "This weekend Dave had been away for a weekend in the Lakes with a few friends.

"He had a good night on Friday night having a sing and dance with a few of us, followed by a lovely Full English breakfast on Saturday morning.

"We were having a nice walk up a mountain on Saturday, the weather was lovely, Rushy was laughing and joking and telling us his conspiracy theories! Unfortunately, as we got close to the top Rushy dropped to the floor and he was unresponsive.

"Continuous attempts were made for an hour to keep him with us but he was sadly pronounced dead when air ambulance arrived.

"Dave died happy and he was doing something that he loved surrounded by his friends. Michelle, Dave’s brother, children, grandson and nephew's meant the world to him.

"He loved them all so much. He will leave this world with a lot of broken hearts. Everyone has a story about him, he always made people laugh even at the most inappropriate times.

"If possible we are asking everyone to make a donation to help Michelle and his family contribute to his funeral costs during this disastrous time for their family."

Tributes have also been paid to him on social media. Lots of people are shocked by his death, but say he will never be forgotten.

One of Dave's daughters, Becci Rushworth, posted: "No words can describe the devastating news we received on Saturday that our dad, partner, brother, grandad and uncle Dave Rushworth had suddenly passed away, doing something he loved at least.

"All I know is I would like to thank each and everyone for the overwhelming support we have received and to everyone involved on the day it means a lot we will be eternally grateful."

Gerrys Fishing posted: "It comes with tremendous sadness that we have heard about the recent passing of local angling legend and very good friend of ours Dave Rushworth, AKA Rushy.

"The local angling community owes this man a huge thankyou for being part of the reason the fishing Forum 'Angling Addicts' took off many years ago and provided knowledge and information about local fishing in Morecambe Bay.

"We would like to take this opportunity to give our deepest condolences to Dave's family and friends at this very difficult time. I'm sure you'll still find a great spot to fish up there mate, We'll have another crack at the Bass one day, You've still got me hooked on the old faithful Chug Bugs and I'll never forget the advice you gave me as a young lad regarding women! Rest Easy pal, Jack and the Gerry's Fishing Team."

Adam Michael added: "Forever be my fishing mentor Dave Rushworth you was such an amazing man! A great mentor in and out of work!! You will be missed by all who knew you and be forever remembered!! RIP mate! Gone to soon."

Yeah, to me a floor is part of a structure, and if you’re outdoors you fall on the ground.

Such beautiful countryside. Thank you for sharing that photo. Rest in peace, good sir, and prayers for his bereaved family and friends.

A bit off topic: it bugs me how they always say “partner” instead of “wife” or “husband” or “girlfriend” or whatever. If I were the wife, I would hate being labelled as “partner”! Part of the decline of our culture, I suppose. No difference between wife, fiancee, girlfriend of the moment. All the same, all “partners”. Very sad.

(Or while in church praising)

I wish I could make a smooth and easy transition to preaching so that I may be found working for Him when He comes for His Church.

You are welcome. I agree with you about partner. Plus it is confusing: When someone refers to a “partner” is it a business partner, a romantic partner, a gay partner? I had a female business partner, and I always said, “business partner,” but I wasn’t sure what people would think, especially without the business part.

We can both make those statements with the same level of certainty, which is none. Neither of us has the slightest knowledge of what contributed to his death.

Exactly! It’s refreshing to see people finally acknowledge that healthy people have always dropped dead, for the last two years.

Except that Sudden Adult Death Syndrome is suddenly a thing.

I think “partner” is the new term for “not yet common law wife.” Or “probably temporary person having sex with one person, more than with another”

So glad to find a kindred spirit on this! At first, I was confused the same way you were. Business partner? Gay partner? Cowboys? “Howdy, partner!”

It seemed to start with the gays, then they decided to be “equitable” or some such, and applied it to straight couples. At the beginning of that phase, they still often used “husband” and “wife” for married couples, “partner” for unmarried couples. Then I suppose they decided that was “unfair” to the unmarried couples living together, so they started calling all couples “partners”. It’s very sad.

It’s enshrining in the language that marriage means nothing, that there is no social recognition of marriage even. And that normal married couples are the same as gay couples. Well, maybe nowadays marriage isn’t what it once was.

Once we imagined the link between sex and babies had been severed, we decided marriage was all about sex, and thus we opened the door to whatever we consider sex, gay sex included. Now marriage simply means two people who agree to mostly (not necessarily always exclusively) have sex with each other for as long as it’s still hot. I suppose “partner” means “sexual partner” these days unless you specify “business parter” or say “partner in our law firm” or medical practice, or whatever.

It’s truly sad.

It probably still means that here in the States, not sure. The British press went through a phase where it meant that, or else a gay couple, but now I see them apply it to married couples, too. See my #34 above.

It’s all so doggone confusing!

Incredible. He lived many years without nomenclature. Never needed it. Became a dad, not a problem. Then sudenly after a wonderful English breakfeast and out with friends he is suddenly deceased. And then he is named, posthumously.

Who writes these headlines? It appears to be an international writers affliction.
