Yesterday, for the first time since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin received "peace proposals."
We have already talked about the fact that Putin initiated behind-the-scenes talks through proxy intermediaries in various formats, with an attempt to reach agreements on freezing hostilities in Ukraine or to find a possibility of concluding a peace agreement, of course, taking into account the interests of the Russian leadership.
The "peace proposal" received yesterday comes from the intermediary country, but the channel that was used for the transfer and the persons participating in the process do not cause doubts about the serious intentions of the party.
Moreover, Putin was given strong recommendations not to dismiss the proposal, but to "cling to" the chance that could be presented to him and to think over his wishes "in detail" without changing the concept of the main points of the proposal.
Without going into details, the "peace proposal" has the following contours:
Russia withdraws troops from the occupied territories and allows the Armed Forces of Ukraine to reach the state border.
Crimea is taken out of brackets for seven years.
Russia receives guarantees of Ukraine's non-accession to NATO for seven years.
Crimea is a completely demilitarized zone. (Small Arms Only)
The Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet is leaving Crimea.
The land border of Russia and the Republic of Belarus with Ukraine is a demilitarized zone of 100 km. (From Russian heavy weapons).
Guarantees of mutual non-attack are ready to fix and control six countries.
Transnistria comes under the control of Moldova.
Today and the next few days, Putin will discuss the proposal.
We are hopeful about the possibility of ending the conflict in Ukraine by concluding peace between the parties, so we do not give detailed information, do not identify countries and do not identify actors.
Ping.
I don’t think he can afford to agree to this. This is an admission of defeat.
The problem on the Ukraine side may be the Black Sea fleet giving up Sevastopol as a base.
But I don't think Putin accepts it anyway.
let the river be the dividing line and put an end to what started out as a civil war...and it still is...
Because Zelensky/Ukraine would not come to negotiating table, thats why
But like I said, I don't think Russia accepts it. Would be great if they did though.
Hopeful sign. I surely wonder who these intermediaries are ...
He can’t agree to this. If he does it is a capitulation, not a treaty / cease fire.
Why seven years for Crimea or NATO? What happens after that?
Russia is losing. They may win in the end, but right now they are losing.
The answer almost has to be HeT.
Nope not a chance, ground freezes, here they come. UK n EU facing a cold hard winter
The EU was stupid to let so many Russians escape.
Next up for the EU, conquering Donetsk.
Odessa
Don’t forget, the Ukrainians are basically Russians. General Winter is also their general.
This would free up Putin to put his full attention against Russians.
Russia only leased bases from Ukraine for its Black Sea fleet after the 1991 break up of the Soviet Union.
I think Putin accepts and Donetsk and Luhansk become independent (read Russian), while Kherson and Zaporizhzhia become Ukrainian again, while citizens are given 6 months to move where necessary while the truce becomes final.
Then Ukraine promises not to join NATO and is declared neutral.
Otherwise more missiles fly into more electrical substations.
Those who have seen me on FR will notice that since Russian invaded Ukraine, I’ve been staunchly opposed to Putin’s Neo-Soviet Union, in the face of communist lackeys. But I wonder what the point of this “peace proposal” is. They stopped just short of demanding Russia allow Zelenskyy to play penis piano with Lenin’s corpse.
Let’s face it: after the war crimes of Petro Poroshenko, the seccessionast portions of Luhansk and Donetsk can never be integrated into Ukraine again. And the demand for Crimea is absurd. In 2014, Crimea wanted to be Russia. (although I’m sure they may be feeling more uneasy about it as Putin reverts to Sovietism.) Ukraine pledging to stay out NATO is pointless, since it’s obvious NATO will behave as if Ukraine is part of it. And treating Russia like the Treaty of Versaille treated Germany is in no-one’s interest.
Russia is exposed as a vastly inferior military force, which should be more concerned with keeping China out. The cost to their own military preparedness is irrepairible. Let Russia’s mistakes be her own punishment.
There is talk that this framework has been agreed upon by both Ukraine and Russia.
The U.S. has been talking a lot with Patrushev whose son is likely to replace Putin. The world is looking past Putin.
Zelensky was told last week that the U.S. will not provide military and financial support to re-take Crimea.
On Monday, Zelensky seemed to soften his demands on Crimea and Donbas so it appears that pre-invasion Feb 24 borders will be acceptable.
