A real doozy of an article in The Atlantic begs for mercy.
In her recent article in The Atlantic, a Brown University professor, Emily Oster, is calling for "pandemic amnesty." She is telling me to "forgive and forget" everyone who was yelling obscenities at me for not wearing a mask in a public park or calling me a mass murderer for posting a picture with a friend visiting. I must forget all this, the author insists, because all those people had nothing but my well-being in mind!
The author admits that many (if not most!) measures imposed on us by "the experts" were harmful and destructive. But "dwelling on those mistakes" is "counter-productive." After all, people who made these mistakes had only good intentions.
"As we now know," the author concedes, cloth masks are practically useless. People who got vaccinated spread COVID as easily as those who did not. Keeping children locked up at homes had disastrous consequences on their development. And some of the COVID "mitigation" measures — like beach closures in California — were outright dumb. But let's not "dwell" on them — because those were "complicated choices in the face of deep uncertainty."
"We didn't know!" the author laments.
After three years of living through the pandemic, the author all but admits that "the experts" were just as clueless about how to approach it as your next-door neighbor. "The experts" did not know even the most obvious things.
They didn't know that wearing a dirty piece of cloth over your face would not amount to anything other than a sinus infection. Seemed like even a third-grader could've figured that one out — and many did.
They didn't know that walking on the beach was the safest activity one could do during a pandemic.

You mean to tell me that requiring everyone to walk in the same direction down a grocery store isle didn’t help control covid????
😏
“Quick Trial. Death Penalty.”
They who never forgave, want forgiveness now.
They, who imprisoned pastors for holding church services, appeal to the kind hearted Christians to forgive..
Christians are called to forgive…..Corrie ten Boom forgave the cruel Ravensbruck guard when he asked her years later……( in her own power she couldn’t, but God intervened)
I personally didn’t have a parent or grandparent die alone because of ‘their’ stringent rules…..but I saw a recent video that broke my heart….an elderly mom in a window reaching out her arms for hugs and the son saying he can’t come in and she cried.
Thousands of moms, dads, grandparents died alone and with breaking hearts.
And now, ‘they’ want us to clear their conscience.
They need to ask GOD for forgiveness….they need to REPENT
They also knew very early on that OBESITY and all the comorbidities related to obesity - hypertension, heart disease, type 2 diabetes - were the second most critical risk factor leading to severe illness and/or death.
And yet, you never heard them talk about that. At all.
They knew a month into the pandemic who was dying and why, but they kept quiet on it.
This piece is not a confession or apology for what the experts did wrong. NO specifics on what the wrong things were, or what the bad outcomes were.
Even Father Ted, the most lenient of penance givers, would tell the author, "Burn in hell for all eternity! Or come back when you are prepared to admit what you did wrong!"
And I can only imagine what Father Matt would say. He was at the opposite end of the penance scale from Father Ted.
Now the investigations should start.
F all of them!! I look around and I see plenty of trees that need decorating and as far as I know there is currently no rope shortage.
Cause there’s no need for amnesty if you did nothing wrong.
No Quarter!
She is not on my side, since I don’t agree with forgivness. These people should be treated as criminals that tried and may having suceeded in destroying the country forever or years to come.
Amnesty is not forgiveness. It never will be. Forgiveness needs to be earned. The Respect that the Medical Profession once enjoyed has been very possibly irrevocably destroyed.
Why a Medical Professional would/could so easily be made to HARM human life is unfathomable. Medical Administrators who “ordered” these draconian measures should be publicly executed in front of their staffs. Make an example of them. Lives were ruined. Lives were lost and all they can say is OOPS, please give us amnesty.
Personally they can all go to hell, the sooner the better.
amnesty?
sounds like a guilty conscience
We should hold all of the "Karens" accountable as well - that large portion of the population who gleefully attacked, mocked, maligned, and supported the destruction (even death) of their fellow citizens, simply because those fellow citizens were not the fearful, stupid, servile little tyrants that the Karens proved themselves to be.
No amnesty, no quarter
Delivery justice and dish out the punishment.
I might consider amnesty if they would agree to three more Pfizer jabs for themselves.
Then you're also at odds with the Christians/most of the people on this board as well.
Oster get bashed for recommending that schools not be closed, and that they should be open. From a professor at Brown, that's like saying you're a Republican. She wasn't one of these covidians.
There is also the issue of contrition. Jesus forgives provided you're sorry for what you did. If some friend or family member who was a jackwagon in 2021 came to me, with a sincere heart and said "listen Bob, I was a jerk, I'm very sorry" then I would forgive that person.
I see NO contrition in many of the covidians. At the same time, many people who were for vaxxing wound up getting covid anyway. They experienced what many of us forecast would happen (i.e. The shots wouldn't forestall prevention). While their contrition may not be perfect, I'll take it.
This is not to say we should be doormats. LOTS of people were terrible human beings, laughing at people dying of covid. They're probably over at DU, equally repulsed by this Atlantic article, still full of hate and blaming the MAGA people for not getting jabbed, and virtue signaling that THEY won't forgive. They won't be getting Christmas cards from me, to say the least.
This was crimes against all of humanity. No way should those who participated in this be given a pass for the human disaster they created and participated in. This disaster will kill for years down the road.
There were no excuses for forcing those experimental injections into people by using fear porn, coercion and punishment.
If the world can excuse this worldwide crime they deserve what they got.
does this mean canada will open its borders to the unvaxxed?
The article neglected to include healthcare workers in the list of groups that lost their jobs for refusing the vax. My sister is in that group. (I was one of the “lucky” ones. My exemption was approved - I just have to fill out a questionnaire each morning, attesting that I have no symptoms. And it looks that that’s going continue forever, since I see no sign that CMS is going to reverse THEIR mandate. But at least I have a job. And unsullied blood.)
I’ll forgive, sure. Forget? Never. And keep in mind that forgiveness is predicated upon justice being served and punishments meted out.
