Independent Women Swing Hard Toward GOP Despite Democrats’ Abortion Push
Yahoo News ^ | October 17, 2022 | Isaac Schorr

Republicans made massive gains with independent women in recent weeks as Democrats ramped up their messaging on abortion ahead of the midterm elections.

Forty-nine percent of voters plan to vote for the Republican nominee to represent their House district while 45 percent said they’d back their Democratic opponent, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday. Of particular note was a 32 point swing among independent women toward the GOP. In September’s iteration of the poll, Democrats boasted a 14 point lead among that demographic, but by October, Republicans held an 18 point advantage.

While Democratic officials and progressive commentators had suggested that the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade might lessen the expected electoral blow of the midterms, the swing toward the GOP among independent women — the group most heavily targeted by Democratic strategists — suggests that their focus on abortion might be to their own detriment.

In a TV segment last month, Republican operative Matt Gorman was rebuked by his fellow panelists for suggesting that abortion “is not in the top four of issues.”

Yamiche Alcindor of PBS and NBC insisted that on the campaign trail “abortion comes up 90 percent of the time” when she speaks with voters. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat and former senator who lost her re-election bid in 2016, shouted over other guests to declare “I hope Matt keeps saying that everywhere he goes — that abortion isn’t really an issue here in this election. I think it is exactly what infuriates women when they hear that.”

Democrats spent 73 million on messaging ads about abortion in September, which is “about a third of all Democratic television ad spending,” per NPR.

At this point, with the Democrat machine spending millions on ads nationwide harping on abortion, it's probably more accurate to say "Independent Women Swing Hard Toward GOP because of Democrats' Abortion Push"

I’d have to say, making “abortion” your only campaign issue is not that creative.

There isn’t an independent woman in the world who needs an abortion if she can’t afford to pay rent or buy clothes to go out partying where she might do something that may lead to the want for an evil abortion.

In other words, the Dems put the cart before the jackasses!

I thought the same. Enough to read at the source. It's a yahoo link to a National Review article. Sounds like good news. But it's coming from National Review which has historically been a republican-supporting pub.

My guess is that more women are thinking....well, I’d never abort a child...so why would I vote for it?? Not a damn thing to do with “Freedom”. The issue is MURDER.

leftists think that the only women who could pro-life went to catholic schools and had their hands slapped by nuns or ‘housewives’ locked barefoot and pregnant patriarchal enslavement camps known as “homes” with fox news playing all day long. Just because you are independent doesn’t mean you are pro abortion.

Even worse for Dems, it’s a NYT poll.

Abortion has been the Democrat Party’s single-issue politics for several years now, ignoring the economy, inflation, high gas prices, Covid and their push for nuclear war. Most people feel ignored for any other topic at best and despised by them at worst.

The problem with the Abortion issue for GOP candidate is that they cannot articulate their position either because:

1. They actually don't believe in "life begins at conception" and are only riding the coat tails of the pro-life movement
2. Don't actually understand the full pro-life position
3. Are too cowardly to take a stand for life.
4. Cannot fully articulate the pro-life position when given the chance (which is limited because the last thing the left wants to do is allow a pro-life candidate to fully espouse their position) 5. Actually do not believe in absolute right and absolute wrong.

Lord, grant courage, eloquence and clarity to those candidates seeking public office in defense of Life. Amen!

Abortion. Racism. Election deniers. Putin lovers.

That’s their only weapons.

Only the hard-core feminists who consume copious amounts of box wine and have at least three cats are consumed by abortion at any cost. Are women moderately concerned about abortion, possibly, but if you’re dead because of the “defund-the-police idiots, then it doesn’t matter. Also, when you’re entire economic existence, and that of all your loved ones, is being destroyed by Biden economic/green idiocy, the ethereal abortion issue is way, way down the list of concerns.

This is what confounds me. The entire left and their cancel-culture warriors are actually few in number, but they are hysterically vocal all the time. That we don’t ignore these mentally unstable people and put them in this proper context has always mystified me. They really are the lunatic fringe, but the corrupt MSM amplifies their every utterance.

To be fair, the Dems are also offering grooming children and mutilating them without the parents’ consent. So there’s that. Add it to rampant crime, no border checks of illegals, spiraling homeless, and runaway food and fuel prices and I think they’ve got some winning issue stuff.

Can you believe that???
There are women who actually refuse to think that killing their babies is the most important thing, ever?

I always thought that taking a life away was a bad thing (except during wars against evil) — bad karma, or go-to-hell bad. But taking a life you (with your spouse) create must be a sacrilege that falls just as hard on the participating spouse.

I'm sure it does in her little world of PBS and NBC reporters.

Well they better hurry if they want anyone to be alive to vote for them with this rampant crime.
