Another day, another price hike for the popular electric Ford truck. Buyers of the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning can now expect to pay around $52,000, up another $5,000 over the most recent price jump. Taking into consideration some of the Lightning electric truck’s ownership costs, is this truck still a good buy?

“electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure, being all above ground, gets flattened and take weeks, months or even years to rebuild”

And that scenario is now playing out in Lee and Charlotte counties in Fla.

I’d still like to know how many EVs that were used to evacuate died on the road and had to be abandoned.

Exactly. I’ve been reading (maybe in this thread) that people fled in their ICE vehicles and left the EVs behind.

What a future these “planners” are creating for us. This is what happens when you put the absolute idiots in government in charge of planning things. Markets know best!

Your point?

You basically back up everything I said.

It went into energy saving mode and you only lost 1%. What happens when you’re in ‘stop and go’ traffic and it has to turn on and off again. I’m betting you’re losing more than 1%.

And given that you only get 150 miles on a charge, it would have taken you a long time to get out of Florida, if at all.

And based on the video I saw the other day of a very, very, very long line of EVs waiting their turn to get on a Tesla charger, I’ll pass.

World not surprise me if a “full charge” is listed as an option on the window sticker.

You asked about energy usage when it was not in use. I answered.

Stop & go traffic is different.

If I’m escaping a hurricane I am sure as hell not taking my EV. It’s, as I said, a commuter car.

80-90% of my driving is as a commuter. That’s what an EV is good for. Not escaping hurricanes. And I would never own an EV as my only vehicle.

We’ve got the big tank also. I’ve been known to apologize to the car in line behind me because it takes FOREVER to fill up. LOL. I love the distance though.

The cooling towers on any steam/thermal power plant coal, nuclear, oil, etc are to condense the spent steam. Even though all of the useful work has been extracted from the steam it is still gaseous steam and requires 540 cal per gram to condense back into water. Until it dumps that heat it will remain steam. The cooling towers take away that 540 cal per gm and allow it to go back to the liquid state.

Who would ever want a truck that can’t do truck things?

There are a few people on FR that like EV trucks and don't care about the truck doing truck things..

“No EV is a “good buy”. They’re a fad, and will be gone in 7-10yrs. Stay with ICE.”

Yep, believe it or not, that argument was decisively settled in the early 1920’s. There were several EV companies in the United States in the early 1900’s. The electric vehicles went away for the same reasons that they are not practical to own today.

4 gallons of gas has more energy then the F-150 electric battery at full charge.

It is hard to imagine why they would even comment here, the very thought of these EV’s being crammed down our throats should be repulsive to any liberty loving citizen. What ever happened to the Viking kitty, spork weasle, and being zotted?

You’re 100% right.
IIRC, they first appeared in 1895, but steam-power put them down, and ICE killed them off.
